SA Rugby Statement: Death in East London

SA Rugby has been advised of the death of a spectator following an accident with a police vehicle during the final stage of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

President, Mr Mark Alexander said: “SA Rugby is deeply saddened by news of a tragic incident during the festivities celebrating South Africa's 2023 Rugby World Cup victory tour.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Minentle Noqhamka's family and friends after her life was so abruptly cut short by this terrible accident. The Trophy Tour celebration was to share the joy of success and victory to have it end in sorrow for this family is awful. We share the family’s grief.”

The rewatch of that doesn't look great. He does ''launch'' himself at Bongi and drive down on to his leg. I've seen a few people say that World Rugby needs to look at the crocodile roll clearout in general because of the inherent danger.
 
We would never have heard the end of it had the Webb Ellis Cup been stolen.
There are two original trophies (because IRB at the time realised they didn't want a Jules Rimet scenario) but afaik, the winner gets to keep a replica only.

One of the "originals" is of course also a replica.

There are two official Webb Ellis Cups, which are used interchangeably. One is a 1906 trophy made by Carrington and Co. of London, featuring a Victorian design of a 1740s cup by Paul de Lamerie, while the other is a 1986 replica.
