Hehe I laugh at the men saying that their SO's prefer whatever their packing, cut or not... You do realise it's all bull**** and when it comes to the penis the majority of women will say whatever they have to to calm our egos?

My personal opinion is that circumcision is barbaric and completely unnecessary in modern times and it pisses me off that they're now making up bogus scientific claims to back up a religious agenda. **** off back to the bronze age where you belong, we won't miss you...

Maybe people have a weird fetish for it? Of all the things that are important to your faith, namely reading a holy book, attending religious services, observing a day of rest, not consuming alcohol, etc......

Why is cutting off the skin at the end of a penis seen as important? Why is it such a big deal to the religious?

Sorry you can't get into heaven because you still have a foreskin. Like WTF?

That people are so obsessed about it is a little weird.

While i am not pro-circumcision, i am disgusted to see the so called "skeptics" resort to weak thinking when it suits their own agenda. men and women differ biologically and thus the reason for various sexes, circumcision was done for hygienic reasons too. this harping on about religion and raising female mutilation when it's not even the topic is about as intelligent as those halaal debates i have to endure
We're talking about female circumcision, not mutilation. It doesn't really matter whether males and females are physically different. If some amount of female genital modification can be carried out to the same degree of safety, then you need to present some sensible reason why parents should not be allowed to have it done.

Was banned for a few days in a district of Germany for a few days or so until the ban was overturned by another court.
In fact there is widespread and growing opposition to it in Europe. Bans get proposed and that's a sign of change. In meantime some countries have simply made it harder for the religious to get a circumcision.

Or maybe they just suck at all other aspects of their religion so opting for snipping their little boys is an easy way of easing their conscience?

It's more than a religious agenda. For Jews, yes, they want to cling to this practice, without being able to explain why they've selectively decided to do so. Hence them playing the anti-Semitism card. In a place like the US though money is a factor. It's good money for little work, so doctors need some excuses to keep doing it.

The whole hygienic thing is a recent invention and basically just a massive deflection. Circumcision was initially done for religious reasons and because of some weird obsession that sex was bad and that your deity would be so impressed that you did something to your kids that made them stop being such sex mad little animals. Some time passed (several thousand years) and some of us managed to figure out that the whole circumcision religion thing was just dumb, and we didn't need to be lopping off sections of our genitalia at all, and some of us have just looked for other poor excuses to still do it. You can see who has managed to move forward in terms of cultural advancement and who is still stuck in the stone age.

Female circumcision IS mutilation. There is simply no other valid reason for it whatsoever and it is banned in every Western country in the world and many others besides. Most people would never dream of mutilating their daughters in that way, but are quite happy to do the same to their little boys. Doesn't make sense. No matter how you cut it.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that; most religious customs actually exist for health reasons.

Most religious customs exist because our ancient ancestors were terrified that the great and mighty Bob, dweller of the sky and thrower of lightning was punishing them by sending boils and blisters into their privates. Equating that to health reasons is the same as calling an ox-cart an Eighteen Wheeler.

Here's my viewpoint on circumcision: It was acceptable long ago because people did not practise personal hygiene and dickcheese was nasty. We no longer live in those times and it should be abolished since it causes irrepairable damage to babies.

My views on getting circumcised just to please women/girlfriends etc:

Pretty broad statement but it's certainly a possibility that circumcision and food prohibitions have their origins in health reasons. Noticing that pork has a tendency to give one the shytes is not quite the same as having a knowledge of germ theory. If you know why pork sometimes makes you sick you cook it properly as opposed to not eating it at all.
Another reason for primitive cultures avoiding pork could be that it apparently smells and tastes a lot like human flesh - just a little aside for you to ponder.

The thing about our modern ideas of circumcision as preventative health is that it is a later addition to the reasons for doing it. As was said in the OP, in the western Christian world, it was originally meant to lessen the sexual pleasure response. I'm pretty sure if female circumcision had gained popularity we would have studies showing a marginal health benefit for it too.

Nonsense. Throughout history religion was used to shape society, not because they had a fear of God, but because they needed to control the populace.
