I feel the pain of the guy earlier in the thread who got declined! I went along and applied for an ABCC after getting pre approval on the phone for 60k. Sat down with a fairly surly consultant who did the application and at the end she tells me: Sorry - "it's declined". Which came as a real shock. I have never been declined for anything credit related before, my credit score is excellent. The only reason I can think of is that we have just bought a new house so taken out a second bond. Maybe they have more stringent policies when deciding on risk as mentioned above. I asked if she could give me the reason why my application was declined and all she could tell me was that the system just says "declined". I phoned AB head office who told me I should have stayed at the branch so the consultant could be reprimanded - she would have been able to see the reason for the system declining. They can't access that information after the fact.

They tell me they use Credit Expert as their credit advisor so I call them. 20 mins on hold with no answer. Emailed them two days ago and have yet to receive a response...

Feel like i'm banging my head against the wall.

If you want the card for ebucks purposes, a large part of the motivation for that has been removed

they are by far the most uncooperative and just generally unhelpful of the large credit bureaus. good luck...

I was initially declined, also with no reason given. Kicked up a big fuss, phoned their help line, tweeted the CEO-elect etc and was approved a day or two later. Don't get how they're hoping to run a bank by turning away good, reasonably well earning clients.

the problem is only with CC applications though. not difficult at all to secure approval for small loans. not sure why this is the case.

so last week i went to cosmo mall to collect my card...yes the one by the township.
after getting my card, and being excited, i was asked to send a color copy of my ID ,which i did.

Wed and Thursday i had some issues with my phone, they tried to call, couldn't get ahold of me and my application was declined.
now i need to reapply and i am actually going to give up.

I see some mentions of a woolworth credit card....can someone please quickly explain to me the ebucks benefits with this card?

I've lost count of how many trips I've made to the African Bank branch to try get a credit card. I even tried applying online but somehow, the consultant who calls insists that they couldn't retrieve my application. As a result, I redid the application for a third time over the phone, was told to go to the branch with the documentation (because that upload option won't work and she doesn't have an e-mail that I can mail the docs to).

Went there thinking I'd finally be able to walk out with a card...

Nope. Guy simply scanned my stuff and e-mailed it off.

Yeah, the Woolworths experience was MUCH more efficient.
