Banking executive Nkosinathi Solomon has been appointed campaign director for the party political platform, Agang, it said on Monday.

Agang leader Mamphela Ramphele said in a statement Solomon's appointment would come into effect on June 1.

"We are thrilled that Nkosinathi is coming on board. He's a top business executive who has overseen R1 billion budgets, run operations with staff complements of up to 2500 people and has both local and overseas experience in the banking and oil sectors," she said.

"Although we are currently operating with about 25 staff, interns and volunteers, Nkosinathi's is the first high-level executive appointment we've made since launching with a small team in February."

She said Agang had had to be patient to bring on board a person of Solomon's quality and it had been "worth the wait".

"More top-level staff appointments will be announced once they are finalised and candidates have negotiated notice with their current employers. We're excited at the quality of people we are attracting."

Solomon initially trained as a chemical engineer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and later earned a Master of Business Administration from UCT's Graduate School of Business.

He had been a management fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge University in England and attended the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago.

He was currently employed by ABSA as chief operations officer for its life assurance business.

Agang intends contesting the 2014 national elections.

Hmmm interesting. How are they going to pay his salary? I know some political parties get grants but this one is fairly new.

Impressive addition. Let's see who else is going to be appointed later. That will give us a feel of whether Agang will be more of the same od what is already out there...

what do you mean by that? Are you saying it will focus more on the middle class?

No, I meant the people involved will make up the culture of the party. If its a bunch of ANC breakaways, then I personally will be suspicious if they can bring anything new to the table. But seemingly fresh faces like this dude would make me pay attention until they publish their policies.

I would imagine journalists and political parties are searching for every bit of dirt they can find on this dude right now. A week or two and if any was found, it will come out

Hahaha. No. This is South Africa. Smear campaigns rarely if ever work out.

I'm sure most medical doctors are excellent plumbers.

But most politicians have a background away from politics though. Many on this forum like to think a journalist will make a great President...

So out of interest then who in the ANC has a background to warrant making a great president.A herd boy with a Std 3? Is that a good enough background?

Yeah, so? He's preferring people without a track record in a specialised field to those that have. This journalist has a track record.

Secondly, business executives have a reputation and inclination for a certain political ideology.
