Does the step-aside rule supersede normal disciplinary code of the ANC? This arrest alone is enough reason to suspend him from all party duties until the case is finalised. He brought the party into disrepute.

I think it's much ado about nothing and News24 are just trying to keep the interest alive, the guy is an ordinary member so he does not really have anything to step aside from, similarly he wouldn't have any specific official duties to step aside from, the issue of his membership is not urgent and can be dealt with through the party processes when he gets bail.

He has been suspended from his official job in the Chief Whip's office which is the correct decision. There should be a good balance with taking the correct decision since he is facing serious charges without going overboard and declaring him guilty before a trial.

As I said in the post above it looks News24 is just full of drama in this instance.

His membership has since been revoked after investigations revealed it was obtained fraudulently.

It seems the ANC disciplinary process never had a provision for dealing with criminally liable members as that doesn't seem to disrepute the party. So, they invented step aside as a stop gap. But as champ says this suspension is of his employment and separate from his ANC membership. But he can't step aside as he's not in ANC elected office.

Finally though from the DM comment I posted on the Gardee thread seems the ANC has been enabling him for quite some time.
