just got quoted 81k for 10 400w solar panels, growat 5kw,4x100ah batteries + sundries and installation, feels a bit steep.
What panels and what battery?
400w Canada panels and the batteries don't have a name just GEL Batteries.

How many kwh (total) from the gel batteries? Could you squeeze budget and get 1xLi-Ion?
it is 4800wh but of course you'd half this, the total price was 10k for them, so couldn't really squeeze. Though the 81k is way over what I wanted. I told them I only want a smallish system of 4 maybe 5 panels and a 3kw inverter.

Understood - yeah unfortunately we are all restricted by what the card can swipe, lol

Yup that they did.

I thought as much, I would far rather an even small LFP battery, in the long run it works out way cheaper due to it's usability but it will obviously cost more to purchase. We've, my wife actually, paid the school fee's with LA's which now just sit in float charge state until there is no CoJ supply.

Yup that was the plan, hence why I told the guy we start on the smaller side and work up, but he apparently just heard 4kw system out the gate.

We did the inverter and batteries first, just for load shedding, before adding the PV and necessary hardware. If my wife hadn't let the horse bolt too soon, I would have gone for a larger inverter and LFP batteries.

Might be something we look at as well, but I don't really need a big system.

Yup, precisely and I kept telling the guy, I'm looking at about max 40k.
You can start with a Pylontech 2000 battery. That is about R13k, although is only has 2.4kWh storage and you can only run 1.2kW from the battery.

Sunsynk 5kW inverter is just over R20k, you can get a cheaper 3kW but that might be an issue later on.

For panels you should check roof space etc, but also look at R/W for different panel sizes. It varies from R6.57 to R8.21 for the same brand that I checked recently. Let's say JA solar 345W panels will work for you, they are almost R2300 each. So if you get 4 panels, that will bring the total to just over R40k, without labour and sundries.

Is it possible to start without the battery? So you use solar power when available and grid the rest of the time. That will save on your monthly bill until you can buy a battery at least.

Not really cause the battery was for the LS times :). But I'll be checking various systems and seeing how it goes, got another company coming.

It's hard trying to find people who are willing to install smaller systems, nevermind taking the time to listen to what you say and give you a quote based on that. There's no middle ground to meet them. And since business is booming because of loadshedding the bigger prizes are all the installers are focused on.

Yup seems to be the case, will check the next one.

How does that differ from Deye, Fusion, Ohm and others? Are they OEM brands?

OEM usually refers to brands that name a product manufactured by the company that allows different branding
