I basically looked for smartphones on GSMArena which has WLan capability and all the bells and whistles.

I think I've found a great phone, which I'll buy once I have some dosh.

It's the HP Ipaq 514 Voice Messenger:

Here's a review.

What do you think?

I can get it from a local online store for about R2400 including delivery.

I would have suggested the HTC S710, but I checked prices online and saw that it isn't a "budget" smartphone. But ja, the HP is pretty great for that price.

Yip, I saw that. But wifi is an issue for me. Also the s310 has Windows Mobile 5, not 6 ;) It's old by now.

Just remember that the display is only 176x220 pixels, which is rather limiting (admittedly the HTC S310 isn't any better).

That's fine. I can live with that. Using it as a phone is first priority, then the extras come in. I've read a few reviews of it, I'm sure it's the best for that price ;)

Why not try to get a good second-hand Samsung I600. I hate Samsungs, but this is not a Samsung, it's a Windows Mobile Smartphone :D . I bought one for R1800 on Bidorbuy in good condition with box and all. I must say it's a brilliant phone. Has wifi, hsdpa, 3g, edge and gprs. Has a lot of extra "Samsung" features over-and-above the standard Windows features.
