Been a interesting day so far with iBurst customers yet up in arms again over some problem at WBS.

So why don't all you folks just drop this dead end technology and join us at the dark side with ADSL ???.

At least you will always have a solid connection to the Internet unless you have been naughty like Slimothy and have been capped.

Up to 30GB to waste and no slow 64K if you go beyond the first 3GB.

They also bill you on time with no nasty letters of demand or even getting your car repo'd when that 3 months due R2400 deduction hits your account when the WBS coffee money runs out.

Why allow all this suffering folks :(

So spare yourselves further hurt and install ADSL ... you know it is the right thing to do :).

Agreed, but why ADSL (besides the fact you seem to be some sort of ADSL advertising spammer for AYCE)

I prefer 512k sentech....40Gb softcap and no throttle ;)

y'know tIBBY.DUDE what i feel like doing right now is driving to Jozie, having a film crew in the WBS parking lot and having them film me driving over my utter rubbish Modem as a protest statement, and making sure that it is televised live on "E" OR CARTE-BLANCHE as a method of preventing other people being caught for sukkers.

I would have gotten ADSL long ago if Telscum wasn't so slow in getting my complex wired. Maybe next year if I’m lucky.

There are 2 reasons I'm getting ADSL [as opposed to Sentech - "king of the dialup market"] to replace iBurst:
  • Low & stable latency for VoIP - me hopes...
  • Cost of bandwidth is lower with ADSL, Axxess 5GB account is R279 [inclusive of VAT] AFAIK...
I also don't have any faith in the Customer Service and Technical Support that Sentech may or may not offer MyWireless customers - even if I went through a reseller, and I also don't feel like carting around a BigAss™...

It is also possible that I will get a 3G phone for when I'm on the move - with something like 250MB or something & use it conservatively...

Because not all of us actually have that option. Between ADSL not being able to run over Fibre, and the useless Sentech Diginet this place has got installed, scary is at is, iBurst is the ONLY option for me currently. Busy looking at 3G, but eish, that price-tag!

It's a sh1te state of affairs that everyone has to come back to Telkom thanks to WBS being a rubbish company, fact is, you guys know what your letting yourselves in for, right ?

A 50/50 chance of even getting ADSL in the first place, R1000 a month if you want a decent amount of data (10gig) and a reasonable speed line (DSL384) and virtually no service whatsoever if anything goes wrong.

Because ADSL is very mature technology, the chances of anything going wrong with it are about as high as something going wrong with a landline and as everyone knows, when your landlines start having trouble, it's time to start praying, because it'll take anywhere from 1 day to 6 months to fix.

But if you manage to get ADSL and you've never had it before, you'll realise why it is simply the only real choice in this country for broadband - that would be wonderful if we had more than one fixed line operator ;)

So now we're effectively stuck between a rock and a hard place - ADSL or 3G.
There's not really much choice even in that, because Vodacom have priced 3G out of the market for home users.

Gaah, sometimes I despair with this country and feel that nothing will ever improve and we'll be stuck in a broadband rut for ever.

I hope you've placed your order then kei, it's as simple as a call to 10219 ...

And pray you don't have fiber somewhere between you and the exchange...

I would have never joined iBurst if my exchange actually supported ADSL. Unfortunately some of us do not have access to ADSL because Telkom is gay. My exchange was supposed to be 'DSL Ready' in March 2005. In March 2005 they changed it to March 2006. Yesterday I checked again and now its moved to 30 November 2005. So I don't know anymore.

Telkom is gay, but iBurst rips you off more and offers worse service at the end of the day. I don't know about anyone else, but Ive never had to wait 30mins on hold with Telkom and if you work out costs (like so many people have done) its clearly cheaper - even if you want two 512 lines.
Mobility? Mobilities arse. Theres 3G for that.

reverting to the dark side is hard for some because of the optic fibre here and there...

what p1sses me off the most about iburst is how one day you getting 110K speeds and the next day you getting 12K speeds. its too inconsistent.

my company asked what do i think about iburst for the business and i told them it is way to inconsistent to be considered a business product. rather stick to adsl and diginet.

the sad thing is the same thing happened to sentech. the word of mouth thing i beggening. and the only people to blame are wbs.

ah well... atleast i can still post n stuff.

Plz point out to me how ADSL is cheaper than Iburst, because price is the reason I haven't signed up yet.

Just looking at that nice little advert on the bottom right hand corner of this screen:

WITHOUT MODEM
ADSL: 10GB 379p/m [+ ADSL Service: - 329=>599]
iBurst: 9GB 1099 p/m

ADSL Modem: +- 400 (you get cheaper - but lets just say for arguments sake - a "good one")
iBurst Modem: R2800

Result:
- Monthly ADSL is R100 cheaper if you go for 512
- Modem - R2400 difference
- ADSL: 1000% more Reliable (this on its own should be a winner no matter what - its pointless saving Rxxx.xx and not actually receiving a service or spending Rxxx.xx being on hold for 30 minutes each time for the helpdesk)
- ADSL: Various solutions should you encounter problems VS iBursts single solution of 'Change your MTU'
- ADSL: Should there be a problem on the SP side, problem will get resolved immediately. Take into consideration this issue everyone (esp. Centurion clients) are having with iBurst, problem hasn't been resolved in 1 week. They even go as far as denying the problem and only after a week do they open their mind to accept that there MAY be a problem (still havent seen anything about claiming there is a problem on their web site - so it might have been all lies and they think they are STILL right).

Need I say more?

[Oh yes, I forgot to mention that i have been a 'happy' iBurst user for a few months now until this last week. The fact that they hung up on me twice after waiting +- 25 minutes doesnt help either.]

From the title of the thread I thought we were going to throw our iBurst Modems in a cauldron and melt them down for scrap. Oh well.
