"A substantial amount of money has also been recovered," Cele said.

WATCH: Man hunt for gang who robbed cash-in-transit guards in Umzinto

Durban - Police are still on the hunt for a group of suspects who robbed a cash in transit guard of a money box in Umzinto on Thursday.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said police were investigating a case of armed robbery after one armed suspect accosted a security official and fled with a money box from a cash-in-transit security guard. No shots were fired. He said it was unknown how many other suspects were involved.
He said the unknown number of suspects fled with the money after drawing a firearm at a security guard. Naidoo said the money boxes defence mechanism was activated once the suspects fled in a red Toyota Etios car, which caused the unknown number of suspects to throw it out the window. They crashed not far from the robbery scene.

Residents loot cash-in-transit van after heist in Tembisa

Police have issued a stern warning to communities not to loot cash-in-transit (CIT) vans after robberies because they might be charged in relation to the crime.
The warning follows after the CIT van was hit on Reverend RTJ Namane Drive in Tembisa about 6.30pm on Monday. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
According to police spokesperson Lt-Col Brenda Muridili, the security company's drivers had just collected cash when they came under fire.
"As they were leaving they heard gunshots and their vehicle was shot at. The vehicle came to a standstill. That's when one of the crew came out. He was disarmed, and allegedly the suspects blew up the cash van and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and the pistol of one of the occupants of the van," she said.

LOOK: Six nabbed following attempted cash heist in Kimberley

Kimberley - Chaos broke out in the streets of Kimberley on Wednesday after shots were fired during an apparent attempted cash-in-transit heist.
At least six men were arrested following their alleged involvement in what appeared to be an attempted armed robbery of a G4S cash-in-transit vehicle.

The incident occurred in Cecil Sussman Street, Kimberley, just before 11am on Wednesday, when shots were fired, apparently by police, as they apprehended five men who were in a silver double cab bakkie with GP number plates.

According to an eyewitness employed at the Sol Plaatje Fresh Produce Market, two G4S employees, driving a G4S cash-in-transit vehicle, had just finished collecting a cash drop from the market and were on their way out when three shots were heard from the street outside the market.

It is alleged that five people inside the silver bakkie were waiting outside the market and were planning on robbing the G4S vehicle as it came out of the market’s premises.
