R1m reward on offer to nab Pretoria cash-in-transit robbers

A cash-in-transit company is putting up a R1m reward for information that leads to the successful arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of Tuesday's robbery at Laudium, Pretoria.
SBV South Africa announced the reward on its Twitter account. The company also confirmed two of its security guards suffered minor injuries in the attack.
Cellphone footage of the brazen cash-in-transit heist, carried out at Laudium Square, shows how five suspects approached the SBV van and forced the driver and three security guards out of the vehicle.

Two arrested for Laudium cash-in-transit heist


Police have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the recent SBV cash-in-transit heist at a Standard Bank branch in Laudium, security company SBV Services confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

"SBV Services can confirm that following the cash-in-transit heist that took place in Laudium, Pretoria, on 14 May 2019, two suspects have been arrested by the SAPS and are currently in custody.

Police hunt man in shootout during attempted cash-in-transit heist

Police are urging anyone who has information of the whereabouts of a gunshot victim, who was involved in the attempted robbery of two cash-in-transit vehicles in the North West on Monday evening, to come forward.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the robbers fled empty-handed but managed to disappear with their accomplice, who was critically injured during a shootout with guards in Phokeng, outside Rustenburg in the North West.

Gang of 15 escape with guns after cash-in-transit van ambush in PE

A gang of 15 suspects stole four firearms and shot at a cash-in-transit van in a brazen daylight robbery in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday morning.
The gang, some of whom were armed with firearms and hammers, ambushed the SBV armoured van and its escort vehicle shortly after 7am outside the Big Ways Shopping Centre at the corner of Bafana Street and Johnson Road in Zwide.
The robbery appears to have been an ambush during a drop-off to replenish cash in an ATM at the centre.
“As the escort car and van stopped outside the centre, the group attacked them from all directions," said an official, who declined to be named.

Cash, pistol and cars seized as police close in on cash-in-transit robbers

One suspect was arrested and incriminating evidence was recovered in a house in Atteridgeville hours after an attack on a cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicle in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria.

The brazen attack took place just before sunset on Tuesday, the police said in a statement on Wednesday morning.

Within hours, one suspect was arrested and incriminating evidence was recovered in a house in Atteridgeville, said the police.

The robbers forced the CIT vehicle to a halt after firing shots at it.

The guards were subsequently disarmed and the suspects used explosives to blow open the safe of the vehicle. They fled, taking an undisclosed amount of money as well as the pistols belonging to the guards.

Three women injured in cash-in-transit heist in Randfontein

Three women were injured when they were apparently hijacked by suspects trying to escape after a cash-in-transit heist in Randfontein on the West Rand on Saturday morning, according to paramedics.

Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said the emergency medical service had arrived on the scene at 8.46am, shortly after the cash in transit robbery had taken place on Van der Berg Street in Kocksoord, Randfontein.

JOHANNESBURG - Eight alleged cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were arrested, another one died and two were injured on Friday, after Gauteng police foiled an attempt to rob a cash van in Evaton Mall in the Vaal.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said after an intelligence-driven operation a multi-disciplinary team comprising of various law enforcement agencies including members from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, spotted five vehicles with false registration number plates after they observed various areas.

Manhunt launched after cash-in-transit guards robbed of firearms in northern KZN

The hunt is on for suspects who held up and robbed G4S security guards of their firearms in Gingindlovu, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday.

A crime intelligence official said the incident occurred at the Easy Plan FNB ATM. No shots were fired and there were no injuries.

Armed robbers escape with two boxes of money after robbing cash-in-transit van in Durban

Armed robbers escaped with two boxes containing an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a G4S security vehicle at the parking lot of a prominent tile business in Mayville, Durban, on Friday morning.

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Brenda Muridili said the armed suspects confronted the G4S security personnel and robbed them of two boxes of money outside Malls Tiles. "Shots were fired but there were no injuries," she said.

Dhevan Govindasamy of PT Alarms, which responded to the armed robbery, told TimesLIVE that the G4S security members had gone to the tile business to collect money when they were attacked by about four or five armed suspects who arrived in a red Datsun Go

A security guard was shot in the arm during an attempted cash-in-transit heist in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, on Monday evening.

"Shortly after 6.30pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the cash-in-transit vehicle halfway onto a pavement outside the Krugersdorp police station along Commissioner Street," said ER24 in a statement.

Paramedics found the security guard inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to his arm. He was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital.

"The driver of the vehicle was found inside the police station. He had no visible injuries but was later transported to a nearby hospital by another [ambulance] service for medical assessment.

Suspect shot dead in foiled cash-in-transit heist in Mpumalanga

One man was shot dead and a second was wounded during a foiled cash-in-transit heist in Boschfontein, Mpumalanga, police said on Friday.

National police spokesperson Col Athlenda Mathe said a group of armed men attempted to rob a cash van when a shootout broke out with security officers.

During the shootout, one of the alleged robbers was killed and a second wounded.

The incident happened on Thursday morning near the Nkomazi magistrate's court.

According to the proposed amendment, handguns and shotguns may only be issued to security officers involved in:
  • reaction services or armed response services;
  • protection of valuables that are being transported (cash-in-transit);
  • private investigation services;
  • environmental protection or anti-poaching services;
  • close protection services; and
  • protection and security services at national key points.
Yet the guys involved in CIT are not using the average firearm civilians use and Bheki wants private security guys to use, handguns and shotguns. I note a distinct disjunct from the reality of living in South Africa by our police minister.

Three CIT heist suspects killed in shootout with Mpumalanga police

One police officer was wounded and three armed cash-in-transit (CIT) suspects were shot dead after a shootout with ensued in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga on Monday morning, said police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo.

An intelligence-driven operation received a report of a CIT heist in progress at a Post Office, which led to police catching the robbers as they were offloading money from a van outside.

The robbers held security guards at gunpoint and a high-speed chase ensued, followed by a shootout between the suspects and police.

KZN cash-in-transit murderer jailed for 45 years

The Pietermaritzburg high court has sentenced a 43-year-old man to 45 years imprisonment on several charges relating to a foiled cash-in-transit robbery.

Michael Siphosihle Nkosinathi Hlatshwayo was convicted of murder, attempted murder, attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

In November 2017, Hlatshwayo and his accomplices armed themselves and forced a cash-in-transit vehicle off the road in the Dalton area of Eshowe, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Police have thrown out a dragnet for six gunmen after a dramatic cash-in-transit bombing in Rustenburg in the North West province on Saturday morning.

The gang – believed to be heavily armed – used two cars to force an armoured car to a halt before blowing open its safes with explosives.

Dramatic footage, shot by a passer-by in the wake of the bombing, shows a cash van and several other vehicles ablaze with a crowd of onlookers rushing to collect money on the roadway.

Swift intervention by police on Monday led to the arrest of three men who robbed two security guards of money boxes at a shopping mall in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo, said that the robbers confronted the guards as they were approaching their service vehicle outside the mall. The suspects threatened the guards with handguns before fleeing with the money boxes.
“The suspects’ getaway was however short-lived when almost instantaneously the Mamelodi intervention task team supported by the local K9 unit and station members responded. The task team intercepted the first two suspects a few streets away from the mall and were thereafter led to a third suspect. All have been arrested,” said Naidoo.
