Yep... Also came here from that article. They should completely spoil the cash with strong acid or fire when a truck is attacked. That will teach robbers that CIT robbery is no use. Nothing preventing a special insurance fund to cover the cost of reprinting the cash. Would be more affordable than insuring the monetary value.

Some of those cash boxes and trolleys do incinerate the contents. And there are apparently solutions that will destroy the contents of the safe as well, not sure why they aren't in use. Or wider application than now. I mean it takes a while for the robbers to stop the van. Those solutions also apparently also auto deploy.

Maybe insider activity like with so many other issues in this country of own goals. it should invalidate the insurance if the countermeasures are not in place or provably tampered with.

Cash-in-transit robbery thwarted by Cape Town cops

The fleeing suspects were pursued and one of their vehicles was forced to a stop on the N2.

Brazen cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were stopped in their tracks resulting in one of them being killed and another wounded and arrested in Cape Town on Monday night.
A group of armed men attacked a CIT vehicle in Baden Powell Drive near the N2 freeway in Cape Town and, using explosives, gained access to the money in the CIT vehicle.
While this was happening, Flying Squad members who were on patrol on the N2 reacted to the incident and confronted the suspects.
Back-up Flying Squad members arrived on the scene and a shootout ensued, but the suspects fled in three luxury sedans, taking an undisclosed amount of money.

The fleeing suspects were pursued and one of their vehicles was forced to a stop on the N2.
Inside the vehicle, a deceased suspect was found.
A second vehicle was forced to stop in Sinevuyo Street, Zwelitsha, Khayelitsha, and an injured man, who was armed with a R5 assault rifle, was arrested. This vehicle was reported stolen in Claremont during May this year.

‘Cash-in-transit robbers aided by cops, prosecutors’

Cape Town - Convicted cash-in-transit robbers claim they were assisted by corrupt police officers, prosecutors, magistrates and even judges, said the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) researcher, Johan Burger.

He was speaking after Zwelinkosi Tsolo 40, a former SBV security guard, who murdered his colleague in a cash-in-transit robbery, was jailed for life.

Burger said despite recent high-profile arrests, cash-in-transit robbery remained a serious threat in South Africa.

“Among those arrested were members of the SAPS, metro police and private security companies,” he said.

Police arrest seven men after explosive cash heist

Police on Friday welcomed the arrests of seven alleged cash-in-transit robbers.

According to police, the gang hit a cash van at Kliprivier, south of Johannesburg, on Thursday at about 5pm, using explosives to blow up the vehicle. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

But it wasn't long before the gang was apprehended.

"Seven suspects aged between 35 and 54 were arrested in GaMmakau, Akasia, Ennerdale, Palm Ridge and Katlehong within a day after the alleged CIT robbery. During the arrest, two rifles with ammunition, a signal jammer and a luxury SUV were recovered. The SUV was reported stolen in Akasia in last month," police spokesperson Col Brenda Muridili said in a statement.

The suspects will be appearing in various courts next week facing charges of armed robbery, possession of a signal jammer, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of prohibited firearms.
