A tow truck driver who gave chase when he saw the suspicious vehicles flee the scene was shot and killed on William Nicol Road when the suspects allegedly opened fire.
Muridili said the group of about 12 suspects, who opened fire on the G4S vehicle with pistols and rifles, were driving in four different cars: a black BMW, a black Mercedes- Benz, a white Ford Ranger and a white Audi Q5.

The Hawks on Friday arrested two men for their alleged involvement in a cash-in-transit robbery in Soshanguve, northern Pretoria, in October last year.

They will join four others who were previously arrested for the robbery.

The Hawks said the investigation team followed up on intelligence about the suspects, who are former Fidelity Cash Solutions personnel, for their alleged involvement in the robbery at Batho Plaza.

“The suspects aged 30 and 39 allegedly provided crucial information while working for Fidelity, regarding the cash distribution vehicles' movements which subsequently led to excessive cash-in-transit robberies in Gauteng,” Hawks spokesperson Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said.

Manhunt for five involved in northern KZN cash heist

Police in northern KwaZulu-Natal are hunting for five men who were involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Mtunzini shortly after midday on Tuesday.
G4S confirmed to TimesLIVE that one of its CIT teams was the victim of a “cross-pavement” incident at a service station. Cross-pavement robberies are incidents where money is intercepted as it is carried to or loaded on to a stationary armoured vehicle, or as it is offloaded from a stationary armoured vehicle.
No guards were harmed in the attack, and no shots were fired.

G4S SA MD Renso Smit said, “We are investigating and are making all evidence available to the police, with whom we continue to work closely.”
