Cop arrested, money recovered from sangoma after cash-in-transit heist in Mpumalanga​

A Mpumalanga police officer was arrested and R30 000 recovered from a sangoma in connection with a cash-in-transit heist.

Constable Zacharia Makgaolane Magopa appeared in the Vaalbank Magistrate's Court on Thursday after he was arrested on Tuesday. He has allegedly been linked to a cash-in-transit heist that took place on Monday.

"Three security guards were transporting an undisclosed amount of money to several ATMs around Moutse West. The security guards were accosted by unknown suspects driving in an Audi Q3 and a Mercedes-Benz.

Life terms and further 120 years for cash-in-transit robbers who killed guard

Johannesburg - Four Eastern Cape cash-in-transit robbers were sentenced to life imprisonment and a combined 120 additional years by the Butterworth High Court.

The four committed a heist in Butterworth in July 2013 which resulted in the death of a Coin Security guard.

Siyabonga Tshayela, 38, Zimasa Diniso, 41, Xolisa Mazizi, 35, and Zibuzele Booi, 54, who have been on trial for more than seven years, were convicted on charges of murder, robbery, the possession of an unlicensed firearm and the possession of ammunition.

According to Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, all four were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Coin Security employee and an additional 20 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances, five years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and five years for the possession of ammunition.

Seven years trial? WTF?
They must have spent those 7yrs locked up awaiting trial?

Not that they didn't deserve it in this instance but that's a long time if you were an innocent relative or similar that somehow got entangled in the mess.

That's the damn truth. Imagine they used your car or something somehow. Is there even an opportunity to sue the police once you are finally freed?
