On page 19 of todays Citizen newspaper (02 August) they have a small article on iburst.

They quote the companies CEO as syaing it will launch in February 2005 and be between R650 and R700 per month flat rate.

He also says "it will be faster and more reliable than sentech"

Even on the lowest modulation you will still achieve 192Kbps

Sorry, I wasn't "dissing" iburst. I'm just p*ssed off about Sentech!

R700 for 1Mbps is awesome...how much would the modem cost?

At R700 a month for 1mbps, They will have such a HUGE Influx of users, that I cannot see how on earth they will be stable for that initial period.

Every Gamer / Downloader / Internet Junky will get it at a drop of a hat.

Lets hope for the best.

No need to be sorry, I didn't take it as "dissing" IBurst.

I dont know modem costs, or any pricing at the moment, but if it is R700 for 1Mbps it will be great.

Well actually they are. Since they said the max price = R700 and they are saying they will offer 1mbps packages on their web site

They've always stated (and still do) :
"This technology platform is capable of supporting transmission speeds of up to 3Mbps"

They've never offered packages above 512 (Product name only, not bandwidth LOL)

max price at R700??? That would be very very competitive compared to Telkom's ADSL!!!

Please oh please be a good reliable service and please live up to the hype and the promises... thats all we ask!!!

If (and I mean IF) Sentech sort ou their current problems, and get their users a bit happier, I'm fairly sure that they will need to react to IBurst's pricing.
Also, what they may do is upgrade their max offering to 1.5Mbps or 2Mbps, in order to be competitive.

*thinking wishfully*

i have to agree with KemoSabi on this... I've become the eternal pessimist when it comes to telecoms in SA. i've had many internet connections - ranging from MegaWAN to ISDN - and they ALL turned out to suck.

It'll take a lot to convince me otherwise... let's see what happens...

You okes are on crack if you expect to get 1 mbps of international bandwidth for <R1k pm. Unless Telkom dropped their SAT3 access rates by a factor 10 in the last few days that isnt going to happen.

Local 1 mbps maybe, not international ... no chance.

There are lots of other things they could offer to make themselves attractive.

-Consistant bandwdith distribution.
-Consistant service.
-Sub 50 ms latency with little packet loss.
-Being responsive to customers.
-No cap or a decent sized cap e.g. >10 GB pm.
-No international shaping of latency sensitive packets e.g. games.
-12 rather than 24 month contracts.
-Etc.

Hopefully they will have learnt from Sentechs fark ups. And seeing as they went on the wardrive that may well be the case.

eish, lesson in economics and marketing, NEVER quote your more expensive products, always tell them the capibility

the consumer would THINK that you SAID that the max capability of your product comes at the cheapest price... hence, hooking more potential clients

Hell, didn't even have to go to school for this ****

R700 would probably be their 384kbps package, seeing as their products would range between 384kbps and 1mpbs

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!
