R10 million fine and 10 years in jail

Those found guilty of contravening the Protection of Personal Information Act (Popia) can face a fine of up to R10 million, serve prison time for up to 10 years, or both.

This is for more serious offences, while those who have committed less serious offences could face up to 12 months in prison, a fine, or both.

@Jan ,I feel like I have to congratulate you guys on the headline to that article:

"R10million fine and 10 years in jail"

(that's the entire headline)

Nay, not a mere congratulation, but an actual award: Clickiest Clickbait Headline In The Clickosphere In The History Of All The Clickies Ever Clicked.

Ho. Lee. S***.

go prosecute them and we might change our opinion...

Imagine you're sitting in a jail cell with 60 hardened criminals and they ask you what you're in for, and you tell them you're doing a 10 year stretch for failing to protect someone's personal information. You're not going to get much respect.

Yet state agencies like CIPC still willy nilly publish people's information.

What a complete and utter joke
