And don't give me stories about 'using soap' - it's still not the same.

Really? In what way? Do you even know what you're talking about?

(And BTW, if we're talking hygiene, women generally have more to worry about than men do. What do you propose we cut off them?)

This is an issue that constantly irks me. How is having the foreskin removed any worse that having a vasectomy, or having your tonsils removed? There are proven medical benifits and apart from slightly rediced sensitivity, it has little effect on your sex-life at all.

A Vastectomy is generally not undertaken on infants.
Tonselectomies are performed when these organs become infected and adversley affect the health of the child.
Circumcision is supposedly a prophylactic procedure performed in the absence of a medical need / diagnosis.
The supposed health benefits - do you really know what the odds are here.
 • 1:136 Odds on getting a UTI
 • 1:50,000 Chance of preventing penile cancer
 • 1:5,000 Chance of Phimosis
 • 1:36,000 Chance of Frenulum Breve

Quite frankly, I rather take my chances at the race track.
I also find it bizarre that 90% of the people against circumcision are uncircumcised - what's it to you? I'm circumcised (I'm Jewish) and I think it's a totally personal thing and the idea of making it illegal and calling it 'mutilation' is actually quite offensive.
Right, So I am circumcised and I am not Jewish or Muslim.

Mutilation (a definition):
 • is an act or physical injury that degrades the appearance or function of the (human) body, usually without causing death. (Wikipedia)
 • to inflict serious injury on the body or a part of the body of a person or animal by removing or destroying parts of it (Encarta)
 • To damage or main by depriving of a limb or part (Collins)
 • To disfigure by damaging irreparably (The free Dictionary)
 • To render imperfect. or To harm as to impair use. (Wikitictionary)
 • To make imperfect by excising or altering parts. (Answers.com)

Circumcision irreparably and permanently removes and destroys a part of the penis (the foreskin and all its structures), rendering that organ imperfect and disfigured and impairs its normal functioning and appearance.

And yes, being circumcised is a totally personal thing. Something I would not have chosen for myself had I been given the opportunity. I was though not given the benefit of choice - this 'personal choice' was thrust on me by others.

Absolutely. If a consenting adult wants it, no problem - that's their own decision (although it is still easy for people to be "persuaded" by ignorant or deceitful doctors).

Infants have no choice in the matter though.

I got myself snipped a few months ago due to a tight foreskin. Now having experienced both situations I would still prefer to have a foreskin.

Just wondering why you chose the full cut over alternative or less radical surgical options?

Completely. Im all for schnipits if thats your thing, but as a baby.. you dont have that choice. As a baby you are paying for your parents mistakes.

I feel sorry for my brother who had to do it (age 16) for medical reasons. Sounds like nookie just isn't that good after it!

LOLThread.

Whenever someone brings up this issue it gets so much attention.

Circumcised people try and convince themselves they are better off, while uncircumcised people try to convince themselves they are better off, pretty pointless, but funny. :D

I actually only wanted a partial circumcision where just enough is removed to allow propor retraction. The doctor told me this might no work (something to do with the scar not being able to stretch once it heals) and I might have to go back in to get the rest removed later.

I ended up going for a loose circumcision as opposed to a tight circumcision.

I suppose being circumcised is not the end of the world but I am glad that I could make the decision for myself.

Having made the decision not to have our boy circumcised, now I really wish we had. He constantly gets rashes down there - right now the whole thing is red and sore. My wife's brother had to get it done at age 12 and it was incredibly painful. I dunno why I ever allowed the extremists of this forum to influence me.

Let him see the Doc, and if he recommends it get it done for your boys well being and comfort.
As you stated, the older he gets the more painful it will become.
There is a reason circumcision is done when they are infants, and the main one is less trauma and recovery.

The problem he has now has nothing to do with him being cut or not.

It could be a urine tract infection. Take him to a doctor ;)

Ok wait a second.

You blame the people on here for telling you to let your kid decide as to the problem he's in now ?

I think you need to also take some responsibility here. I'm not chopped and never had a problem, my little boy is now 3 and has no problem. Why ? Cause of Hygiene. We taught him how to pull the skin back and wash it. Same as his daddy does every night.

Seriously, mate. I know you might be pissed off but you need to take some responsibility in how your boy takes care of it. And like I mentioned above, it might not even be anything other than an infection which would have given him a problem, cut or not ;)

No, I'm not blaming the people on here. It was our decision. But if I did it over again I would have had him cut, having had the experience.

Gosh this topic is hairy enough to make me clamp my treasure tightly and run for cover.

I agree, to surgically remove a natural part of an individual's body without their informed consent is barbaric.

Should this act be stopped & baned, made illegal, or should we continue to respect peoples religions and thus allow babies to be sliced?

Nope. Religious peeps should realise we no longer live in the desert in mud/clay huts spending our time in rivers fishing and bathing once a week.

Unless of course you do... then by all means. But this is not a required practice in the modern world due to modern technology and hygiene.

Cerebus, that's not normal. Take your son to a doc and get a culture done. It could be a urinary tract infection, a rash due due to overenthusiastic cleaning or retraction, or irritation due to sensitivity to washing powder or something.

There is a reason circumcision is done when they are infants, and the main one is less trauma and recovery.

Or because they can't fight back...
