The DA and its bag of charges

Genevieve Quintal, News24

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance is known for laying criminal charges against other political parties, government officials, organisations and even President Jacob Zuma.

But what has happened to these cases once they have been filed?

News24 looked at a number of cases opened by the official opposition over the last five years.

When asked for an update on the cases, DA national spokesperson and MP Phumzile van Damme said the party had been following up on the cases.

"To date, there have been no arrests, let alone prosecution.

"We will be submitting parliamentary questions to the minister of police on each one of these cases for full feedback," she told News24.

Van Damme said the DA was hoping that there had been no political interference in any of the cases.

Here is a list of some of the charges laid by the DA in the last five years:

The Justice system under the ANC government does not favour [-]good[/-] governance.
I apologise, but that statement needed a little fixing

I'm sure the DA would welcome the charges and allow due process to take place.

Blame it on cANCer..... Lol u peoole are biase, this charges are stupid charges anyway.
so, you are saying a charge of perjury is stupid, or only stupid when laid against a member of the anc:
In December 2014, the DA laid a charge of perjury against then-SABC board chairperson Ellen Tshabalala. This after Parliament's portfolio committee on communications found she had lied about her qualifications in a sworn affidavit.
(and our ambassador - a presidential appointment - did exactly the same when taking up a position in canada. despite zuma knowing this, he later appoints her as his ambassador to japan)

and then nkandla, the zuma compound:
In March 2014, Maimane laid corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma at the Nkandla police station. This was in relation to the security upgrades to the president's private home in northern KwaZulu-Natal. This was after Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report found that Zuma and his family "unduly benefited" from the upgrades.
also stupid to charge him (this aside his relationships with various benefactors) ?

but carry on laughing

Very busy paper shredder indeed,

You actually think the police can do anything with the billions of dockets they get?

More of a PR stunt, than anything

Yeah, but these cases have done a lot to help. The DA are the only political party spending money on these. Weve had some great results, like managing to get some progression with the spy tapes. If the DA doesnt try hold these dishonest and corrupt people accountable. Who will? At least theyre the only ones really trying. All these cases cost time and resources. Which is why you wont see the EFF doing this. It involves work.

The DA are doing a good job as their role of opposition. Anyone who gets upset about a list like this is silly. If they did not do this they would not be doing the jobs we elected them to do. Which is try hold the ruling party accountable for their corruption, and hopefully won day win national so we can work on getting clean governance (which the DA being the only party to get clean audits in all the metros it governs).
