Two DA staff hijacked at gunpoint in KwaZulu-Natal, party's branded vehicle torched

...

Speaking to News24, DA KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Dean Macpherson said the attack happened as the two staff members were making their way back from the campaign trail.

"The two staff members were driving a truck that we normally use for our campaigning. They noticed a suspicious white bakkie [pickup truck] with blue lights resembling those used by law enforcement following them. The vehicle was quiet relentless and after initially not stopping as they could tell that something was suspicious about the car behind them, they eventually pulled over to the side of the road where five armed individuals proceeded to hijack them," said Macpherson.

He said the two staff members were driven to a location almost 20kms from where the hijacking took place where the five assailants tied them up using cable ties, forced them to lay facedown while they proceeded to search, strip and set the DA vehicle alight.

The two occupants in the DA vehicle were not harmed nor were their personal belongings such as cellphones and money taken.

We don't know. Crime is so out of control in this country, any incident can be hidden behind "normal crime" that it would be difficult to prove otherwise. Our normal crime is quite abnormal.

I hate what the current rulers have turned this country into. We deserve better.

Every crime, normal or otherwise has underlying reasons, you need to ask what the motive and the intent was here? Once you look at this, it is anything but normal. This was as much a message as it was a crime.

If Nelson Mandela – if Madiba – was alive today, he would vote DA. He would not be voting for the ANC. The ANC in 27 years has achieved almost nothing for the people of South Africa and only achieved for themselves by breaking and stealing. They have broken every state-owned enterprise in this country and they have stolen this country blind. If any of you believe there is a bad ANC and a good ANC, you are being stupid. There is no good ANC. Cyril is not our saviour. There are no good people in that organisation. And anyone still voting for the ANC is a moron, and does not have this country’s interests at heart.

I don't like comparisons like this because we simply do not know how Madiba would have been had he lived today just like we don't know how others would have been.

Mandela's politics does seem incompatible with today's ANC, EFF and DA though so I'd say COPE would probably best fit his ideology and way of doing things and they are not doing well which just goes to prove that his politics are outdated. It was good for a specific time but it's now time to move on.

Mandela was a moderate socialist which would not be received well in the DA or today's ANC and EFF. I'd say he could have fitted into the DA under Zille and Maimane but certainly not under Tony Leon or Steenhuisen.

KZN politics is bad and this is probably linked to someone somewhere viewing the DA or a DA councilor as a threat to their job and access to resources. The DA has been spared from these things throughout the years because they were not seen as a threat but the internal ANC fighting and fighting between the ANC and IFP back in the day used to be intense.

I would, would also like to know who is funding the Freedom Front and all the others who did not declare, the act applies to everybody.
Agreed. Full compliance and disclosure by all parties are required. On the ground though it is evident that the EFF has got a lot of money to burn.

Do you see the Freedom Front spending money?
As unofficial rep on the forum, I can tell you that we don't get money. All the posters that you see are on homemade papyrus and using traditional Babylonian techniques. This is done only because our charismatic leader Marais makes us feel alive with possibilities.
