Interesting, I read Paper Tiger, written by Alide Dasnois and Chris Whitfield, two ex IOL staff from its better days who were kicked out due to not complying with Iqbal.

They mentioned in the book that the DA's gripes with IOL extended from their days. DA was on their case to attack them even when IOL was a trusted source of news.

I don't see what reasons Dasnois and Whitfield will have to lie about that.

Anyway, an interesting book.

This article by Whitfield covers it a bit.. Tony Leon is reported to have been telling people not to buy the Cape Times and the Cape Times was a good paper at that time.
Ok, I guess?

still CoCT gets to run a rather functioning clean muni.. Looking at eThekwini... it looks like nobody pays anything. Interesting..
Nah everyone pays...

And the peeps like Gumede steal it all and print big fsck off ugly banners with their hideous visage on it for the airport...

I've seen a few DA aligned people hit back by posting videos of that Action SA meeting which turned rowdy.

This is Action SA's first real test. Mashaba and co need to handle this well to show that they are the real deal. A failure to deal with this well could lead to them fizzling out faster than they think.

The only problem I see is that they now have a lot of good administrators, Bongani, Beaumont, the former Metro Cops chief, and Mashaba himself, they are now running short of good politicians.

Pity they were not able to convince Maimane to join because their support outside of urban areas is going to fizzle out if they are not careful, their fallout with Makhosi Khoza in KZN and the uprising that happened with their Soweto supporters shows a deficiency in their grassroots leadership.

Mhhm, if they went into partnership with Maimane, it may have started off with a bang but eventually ended on the same bitter terms that Maimane's term with the DA ended. It was better they avoided the disaster that would eventually come.

Maimane's differences with Mashaba are actually as big as the differences he had with the DA's core electorate.

Maimane is more like Biden while Mashaba is more like Trump. Had they been American, Maimane almost definitely would have voted for Biden and Mashaba Trump.

It can be anyone not necessarily Maimane, they need people on the ground, all the people they have attracted so far had no constituencies, the middle class vote is not going to take them anywhere, they need to get a base outside of that, but it's not going well so far, they were fighting amongst themselves in Tshwane.

Beaumont makes a valid point though. We can't speculate on what happened at the meeting. It may have just been a few drunken individuals who caused the fighting and these days its very easy to manipulate social media footage to make it seem as though it was a big crowd when it may have only been a few people.

The premier says he has actively encouraged all those who came forward, to lay charges against Fritz. Those who do decide to lay charges will be “supported” by Winde and his team.

“The option of me laying criminal charges against Minister Fritz remains firmly on the table, depending on the outcome of the independent investigation to determine the veracity of the allegations. I must be guided by this report to ensure a lawful and fair process that will stand up to legal scrutiny in the future.”

Yup, Winde will have him charged, called it

It has never been up to Winde to have him charged.

Does seem like he wants to tho, also encouraged and supported the victims to press charges against Fritz.

Yeah I get that he wants to help but I have never understood why people seems to be under the impression that the Fritz matter is his baby, thosewho made the allegations should come forward and oprn cases.

It's damage control, they'd be lambasted if they kept silent on it. Don't really see much other choice.

Don't know, probably cause he's the Premier of the WC Gov and Fritz is/was a subordinate in that gov? And probably the opposition parties like GOOD (with insufferable Herron), etc. will definitely use this to their advantage if Winde (and by extension, the DA) didn't do anything...

So yeah, complicated. But it's nice that Winde is actually trying to do something
