lol no

But I can agree with you on the racial thing tho, sure the comment itself is ****ed up and it's fine if the guy gets disciplined for it. But to make it a racial thing isn't ok.
You think he would have made that 'joke' to a white colleague?

Why not? I joke regularly. The pap vs sandwiches joke is a regular one, I deliberately selected a Cape victim, same type of example. Are we trying for an inclusive society now, or exclusive? If we exclude, that might be racist. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Let's not even talk about those guys from the North West, like @HunterNW who has to buy his biltong in Pta :giggle:
Or the Boksburg guys (can't remember who now) ...

Nvm the boerewors curtain separating JHB and Pta.

Either some people either just want to be special, or they should just get into the closets and melt away from the world.

You joke with your work colleagues by telling them they should go back to where they came from? That they're not welcome to eat with you? When do you get to the punchline?

Source? Or should it be sauce? Oh sorry, is that racial?

Just stop. Where is the racial part? Stop simping for victimhood.

Perhaps. We don't know what went through his mind at that point. It might as well have been an inside joke with himself or with his friends, we don't know, we don't have enough context here.

I'll reiterate this, the "joke" is still ****ed up and he should be disciplined, but to immediately make it a racial thing (like always in SA) isn't right in this case.

Take the blinders off bud. White man tells black woman to go back to where she came from, of course it's racial. He never said such a thing to any of his white colleagues, did he?

Of course it's racial.

The relations must be very poor in that caucus for jokes to be misunderstood and things to come to this, to me it looks like there was already bad blood between the two, because even if the joke was offside and could have racial connotations to it you'd expect two colleagues to sort it out with stern words from the insulted party and apologies from the joker.

Maybe this is the kind of thing that has lead to that law banning sarcasm and eye rolling in the workplace.

I do wonder though how do we navigate these workplace challenges, my rule is never to make jokes with people I am not properly acquainted with and people with mood swings.

Same, it's just easier. Because those people could lash out at your kind of humour. Then it's a whole thing.

Some jokes are more politically expedient than others, a politician might just be able to use it to make a name for himself.

Truth is a joke from a black person in the DA telling Mazzone to go back to Italy to get her food would be viewed in the same manner, and we all know why it could be seen to have racial connotations.
