Question:
What happens to all the pensioners living off of charity and old age grants when either the tax payers go into full revolt, the government has to prioritise debt over grants or the departments administering it simply fall apart from decades of corruption?

Is it REALLY a good idea to leave the wellfare of the aged up to government instead of their families where it belongs in the first place?
If every impecunious geriatric had family members that were both willing and able to support them, we wouldn't need grants.

Clearly that isn't the reality, so we do.

But you seem to be against any party that's pro social welfare.
I am not sure how you got to that conclusion. I hate the ANC and the EFF because they are a bunch of incompetent criminals.

The social welfare system in SA is not sustainable and is only a vote gathering mechanism.

The number of voters voting for grants outnumber the number of voters that has to work. This is a ponzi scheme that is going to collapse.

I think it helps me to think that as a taxpayer, I am in a position to contribute to society this way as well. It will obviously be great if money is not lost to corruption but that is beyond my control, like most of the things are.

I take one example below - old age person grant. In what world would one deny a grant of 1860 per month to a person in such situation ? I find it unthinkable.

Perhaps over period of time, this income parity will go away. Average mybb'er which mocks the silly grants is much richer than me as I have seen and I am in top 1.5% of SA. There were lot of threads I started as to if X amount is enough at Y age and I was told it is hardly enough by many. To see basically same people complain about grants is quite a revelation.

The maximum value of the Older Person’s Grant is R1,860 per month from April 2020. If you are over the age of 75 you will receive R1,870 per month. In order to qualify for the grant you need to meet the requirements of the means test. If you are single your income cannot be more than R78,120 per year (R6,510 per month) and your assets cannot be worth more than R1,115,400. If you are married your combined income cannot exceed R156,240 (R13,020 per month) and combined assets can be no more than R2,230,800.

Agreed, but to think like you do requires a certain amount of empathy and self awareness, something that the teeth gnashing crowd here sadly lack.

ample empathy if I look at SPCA donors. Our complex gave 2000 rands recently for a security guard who worked for 15 years. People go hugely generous when it is SPCA.

Maybe if these people were dogs, that would notch up the empathy a bit.

The impression I get of the average Mybb'er is that they were brought up in upper-middle class/elite circles, schooled in such circles and now remain in such circles without venturing off much, nor having an interest to do so.

Hence, their perception of the realities of SA are quite skewed and not in tune with the on the ground situation.

Thabo Mbeki once said that there were two South Africa's when describing the same thing. Most here have only lived in one.

Not sure if it's the average, but otherwise I kinda agree with you. Why, we even have members here not believing theft of stock on farms is an issue, not that JHB is going to the dogs. Apparently their area is fine.

Or a clone perhaps? What ever happened to my good mate ZFCOutkast?
That's also possible. I was also a lurker for a few years before I stormed the scene...so to speak. I racked up a bulk of my posts (over 99.00%?) in the past 5 years.

anyway, why the supposedly hullabaloo about a supposed da crisis when its actually the anc thats in total crisis.
There are many threads about ANC crises on these forums. Why do you care? I thought you also trekked to the green, orange. :)

i just find these things about the da exaugurated, as if there is an attempt to create drama. i have not voted for vf+, i was considering changing my vote recently but it appears they are attempting rectify things i had a gripe with. they are doing well and have done well, i dont think its fair to them to be so fickle
