Probably stupid to even talk about it. In what scenario would a DA and AND alliance even make sense.

It's not like the EFF can get 30% of votes.
I agree, It never made any sense to me that the ANC would fall under 50% and need some rescuing through a DA coalition, who will be getting the votes that the ANC lost? Not the EFF and not the DA, so why not worry about getting your own house in order first before worrying about the ANC?

I still haven't heard or seen the DA's growth strategy that would threaten pushing the ANC under 50%, the turf war between them and the Freedom Front isn't going to yield much in votes, so where are the votes going to come from?

I think they've already relegated themselves to 3rd largest, with EFF taking official opposition spot according to their projections.

Maybe they're banking on ANC splintering in the aftermath of Zuma trial.

I think that many in the DA has realised that the will never be more than just an opposition party. The only way to grow is to play identity politics, and they will never beat the ANC/EFF at that game.

The best we can hope for is that the ANC will split one day right in the middle.

They did. The EFF was born.

(Well, not quite the middle )

One option is to teach the general population how government works. Why taxes are collected. How these are important in their everyday life and how they can change their lives for the better when utilised correctly.

We know the script, if there is a fallout the DA is going to go create a crisis of their own that will cancel out the ANC's fallout, Zille going rogue again, Steenhuisen trying too hard to stamp his authority and causing a fallout in the DA, they'll think of something, you can trust them on that one.

Funny but sad at the same time. I don't want strong ANC (or any party for that matter)

What about the millions of people who are not voting? They are no one's people, is the DA unable to come up with a plan to capture them?

Hoping for an ANC split that will benefit the DA sounds like a pipe dream.

I didn't said a ANC split will benefit the DA.

In my area the DA is fracturing with people moving to ActionSA, including our extremely active and effective ward councilor.

My theory; the DA will become a Western Cape-only party as nationally it weakens further. Maimane put a torpedo in to the DA and trashed any chance it had of continuing to grow by playing identity politics and flip-flopping. Zille should've hired a social media manager years ago and now this talk by Steenhuisen of a coalition with the ANC will further harm it. I know I have very serious reservations about voting for them again. Unfortunately the alternatives are terrible. I'll probably end up voting ActionSA locally if it means keeping our councilor (and not because of Mashaba, he is another race-obsessed twat) and then nationally, who knows.

I couldn't agree more BUT the biggest problem with the current voting population, IMHO, is their indoctrination towards supporting a certain party or party-politics or else be called a traitor to the fight against apartheid and its effects in SA. It's much easier to show people through actions rather than on pieces of paper and therein lies the rub - you can't affect actions unless you are in control.
