yes the recent price drops and inclusion of an extra 500mb data bundle was interesting...but VODACOM really knocked MTN on the head with their new prices...

dont get me wrong now, i've always been an MTN guy and will always support MTN...but i mean really now...the price of a 2GB data bundle with VODACOM s basically less than the cost of MTN's 1GB data bundle(exclude the extra 1GB for 3 months catch)...and the cost of VODACOM's 1GB data bundle is just a tad bit higher than MTN's 500MB data bundle...

you are my cellular provider MTN and you will always be my cellular provider but lets be honest with each other now...if VODACOM can drop their data prices in such a drastic manner and still acknowledge the fact that it will still be profitable for them...surely you can do the same???

However, I don't think Vodacom is offering those prices on Prepaid bundles yet, or are they?

Roll Over, now that could even be better than a "small" price drop. :)

So this whole ICASA approval front is a load of BS. Unless this whole price reduction is a collusion between MTN and Vodacom, meaning that they have together gone the ICASA route months ago, settled on some price reductions and worked out systematic ways of implementing them.
I won't be surprised if this whole "price war" settles with both MTN and Vodacom
on more or less equal tariffs, both "winning" in the end and hopefully the consumer as well. :)

I saw an article this morning about the 2GB promotion from MTN being extended, any truth to this or is this what you were referring to?

MTN 2GB promotion likely to continue
By Cara Muller, 15 March 2007

MTN have said that the feedback on their 2GB promotion, launched last month, has been positive and therefore will ‘most likely go ahead’ with it.

According to the head of Products and Strategy at MTN, Ashraff Paruk, MTN SA initially launched the 2GB promotion to test the market. MTN said that the promotion progressed well and that they will most likely continue to offer this product.

Price war ahead?

According to Paruk, MTN is aiming to remain competitive in the broadband space and they see data as a vital component in their future growth plans.

When asked about Vodacom’s 61% price cut, MTN stated that they continue to be competitive in the broadband market and that they are now evenly matched.

MTN does not foresee a price war and are focusing their energies on offering quality and maintaining standards.

Prepaid data MTN trump card

According to MTN, one of the big advantages that they have over competitor Vodacom is that anyone with an MTN SIM can get connected for as little as R20-00. Furthermore, MTN customers get to determine their own commitment level.

This is due to MTN’s prepaid data bundles which Vodacom do not as yet offer their subscribers.

According to MTN prepaid data bundles help lower the barriers to entry into the market. The mobile provider added that their postpaid and prepaid data charges are the same further leveling the playing field.

Whilst MTN have adamantly denied that there is a price war on the books, the acting MD, Brain Gouldie said that MTN is, “clearly committed to broadband and we see ourselves as the leader in this context.”

MTNDD now that you effectively have a permanent 2GB bundle is there any chance of getting a separate 1GB bundle?

MTNDD / PitBull, etc.
I need some clarification on the data prices on the MyChoice packages.
I was told that the data rates on the MyChoice300 (R1.2/R1.5 per MB, not sure) is cheaper than on the Mychoice75 contract, which is @ R2/MB.

What is the real truth?
Some forumites are reporting the data rates are all the same on the MyChoice packages.

Also, how long does the value rollover for, i.e. if you have used R150 of your R300 MyChoice package, how long does the other R150 carry over for? On this contract MTN does not differentiate whether you use the value for voice or data voice, it is either / or, just the different rates apply.
