Riot death toll in South Africa reaches 117

South Africa’s death toll from days of riots rose to 117 even as the worst of the violence appeared to ease, with the deployment of thousands of soldiers starting to take effect.

Authorities have arrested almost 1,500 people, including 12 who allegedly instigated the unrest, resulting in rampant looting and the destruction of businesses in two key provinces, acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni told reporters in Pretoria, the capital, on Thursday.

So far in my head.. It's treason, 117 murders, wide scale ecological damage as base criminal charges...

There is also the r20bn+ civil claims they each must shoulder as well.

Include Zuma in all of this charges too!

This whole thing for me just proves that Ramaphosa doesn't have any balls. If he had he'd have given a shoot to kill order the moment these bastards started looting then many of those people might still have been alive. Few dead looters but that wouldn't really be a loss tbh.

Ramaphosa will never kill his own kind. Criminals' human rights rule. The mass, delinquents in government are totally destroying this beautiful country.

That would have guaranteed his downfall and immediate takeover by the RET gang. You don't want that at this point, do you?

True, but he should've at least done something to ensure law and order. Sitting back with a drink while the country is burning shouldn't be his only option.

I'm assuming there's a lot of work going on in the background. Furthermore, the criminals hardly have time for his speeches but key here is to trap the instigators and arrest them.

I get that, but it shouldn't be in the background, his actions should be visible. He is our leader, he should've taken lead and restore law and order.

Any more details of those bodies that were found on the roof of a building?, that seemed rather strange.

You mean he’s not an idiot. No-one can legally give such an order in South Africa. Nor would it have achieved anything if this was orchestrated, as claimed.

What utter rubbish. And you’d soon be complaining when soldiers and police are indiscriminately killing civilians left and right. Never mind later on when Ramaphosa decides that since he broke the rules and the law to stop the looters he might as well keep doing it for his own benefit. Just Zuma.

I mourn the innocent who died :(

To the rest, I nominate them for Darwin Awards.
