Friday afternoon, came home early, lit the braai, suiped a lot of Whk draught, watching the driftwood ignite on the braai, palm tree about 34 m high fluttering in the breeze, only 17h07 in Nam right now, have a major craving to return to the mother city to go pub crawling like i did when I was a youth..... Fire alone right now, quiet, still ....boggerall social....... Need to head into the city sometime, socialize in realtime.....

Depends on personality I guess. I could totally do the living in the desert thing [*] ...somehow I don't really need/carve direct interaction like others do.

* assuming ADSL. I'd die if I can't read up on cool stuff.

Fire. Wood. Burning. Dop in my hand. In an outback environment. Nobody else around.

I could do this for quite a while ... although not forever.

Envy...

As others said, that with an internet connection will be envy of many here...

I'm heading that way in Sept/Oct to get away a bit, cannot wait to be in the position you are in right now i.e. desolation...

I hear you OP. A bit of extended alone time can be great, but not all the time.

Err I think you mean isolation? Desolation sounds pretty terrible even for introverts.

'tis true I suppose. I guess if you can switch between the two at will that would be ideal. Usually though if you're connected socially & withdraw then ppl give you flak for it.

Nothing beats Namibia, been there a good couple times already, the isolation and the ability to drive off into the desert and be alone and most importantly safe!
