The Electric Cars Are Here. Now How About Selling Them

So far, electric cars have only proliferated in countries with significant sweeteners. Once they go, sales of battery models crater. Demand in China, the world’s biggest electric car market, fell 16% in August — its second straight decline — after the government scaled back subsidies. Carmakers can reduce prices, but then only cut into profitability that in most cases has been nonexistent.

Consumers are similarly sensitive elsewhere. Demand in Denmark collapsed when the government phased out tax breaks in 2016.
In other words they are ironically completely unsustainable.

At the moment they are just a hype.

They will only become a reality when oil runs dry i.e. until that resource is "milked dry"

I read somewhere that if all people in the US switch to electric vehicles that there won't be enough electricity to sustain all the cars and everything else.

If that is the case in the US how much worse for a country like South Africa. We just can't accommodate a switch to electric cars with our electricity supply as it currently is, so it's a good thing that take-up is slow.

Does the car come with a petrol generator in the boot in case of load shedding? If not, this is not practical for Africa.
