The end of the road for South African Airways

SAA made a profit in 2011. Then Zuma's work at capturing it took over and since then it has slid off a cliff. How I hate that man.

Everyone is excited that a lot of people will lose their jobs. The emloyees are the only ones that are going to suffer not the people that ran in into the ground at full speed.

Remind me to throw a party when you lose your job because of mismanagement at the highest level. ;) There is nothing to celebrate here!

I am definitely not glad about people losing their jobs, but I am relieved that SAA will probably be shut down. And only because the government has wasted too much money on it the past decade. How many billions in bailouts did they get? Even the business practitioners got R3bn or something this year. That money could have done a lot more. If SAA was privatised back when it was still worth something these people would not face the prospect of joblessness now.

Sad that many, many people are losing their jobs, and the skills lost, BUT rather glad, as it was a big leak of tax payers's monies.
Government: the larger it is, the more possible leaks into a piggy trough....we seem to have plenty.

Government won't give up on SAA
The government has not given up on saving SAA and told employees on Tuesday it wants to work together to establish “a new financially viable airline”.

This was despite business rescue practitioners, who were appointed in December, having set in motion the structured winding down of the airline on the grounds that the government has said it has no cash to any longer fund the rescue process.

I have not flown SAA for years, I never liked their service and always managed to get better cost alternatives no matter where I wanted to fly to, into Africa, Europe, USA, never required SAA.

Still think it should be like Telkom, privatize it to a level that the Government have not control and just a mere minority shareholder.

I don't wish to be too pedantic, but ought the headline not to have read: "end of the runway for SAA" ?
