BCX and Dimension Data are smoking some good stuff. MPLS has no security. None. Zilch. Lutho. Dololo.

MPLS has no inherent security attributes. The ISP who you purchase from becomes an extension of your network and when they are compromised your traffic is visible in an unencrypted form.

Stating that its a seperate network and not the Internet and hence more secure is similar to stating that your home LAN is secure because it is also a separate entity. Ja well no fine.

Not a single expert in this article has mentioned one factor that is probably a big driving force away from Telkom's fixed line voice services - load shedding. When the power goes out so do many Telkom exchanges, while fibre based Internet services remain up.

Telkom ABANDONED all their copper infrastructure in my town and gave everyone a table-top phone that connects via cellular connection. The only issue is that cellular reception is very bad and there is no fibre. The only internet we have is through very expensive WiFi providers at more than 3 times the cost of fibre and double the price of LTE (which we cannot get due to weak signal - even 3G is bad)

Copper-based fixed-voice on the way out in South Africa — At least in some areas

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services are on the rise in South Africa and will likely replace traditional copper-based fixed-voice products like Telkom's landline telephone service.

However, there are still businesses and homes in areas of the country that still rely on traditional technologies.
Unfortunately, VOIP does NOT meet the higher AUDIO standards of a copper line. VOIP yes but the poor AUDIO is not acceptable.
