OK - So some of you might know that Kimberley, my home town, is the mecca of Ford's, dicing, spinning and now also drifting i.e Monster Mob drift cars are the most elaborate drift cars in SA!
Anyway, December my uncle came down from Durb's with his Frieling fettled G5 GTi...this car i like! And as you all should know that Frieling fettled cars kill off oponents like dust..., point is, the guy started driving to old friends in Kimberley and every chance he gets he'd press the loud pedal and get it into boost and the exhaust note changes to that sweet modified turbo sound...joh!
Pretty soon the word spread that there's a G5 GTI that claims to kill off M3's...now Kimberley ouens are a crazy bunch...car crazy to be exact. Late night antics resulted in 3 M3's being spat out by the GTI...no problem...up and down they went, some of these M3's were Dastek candidates as well, nothing in Kimberley is standard
Then out of the blue at passed 1am at night on the JHB road the Barn's rolled up, one in his XR8 and his son in the red Escort with 9" diff and full race slicks...Mickey's to be exact. They did not want to hear anything, and the trash talking started of a Durbanite coming to claim victory in Ford country...silly I know...
Long story short, the GTi struggled for traction in 3 gears!!! And the Ford's 3 speed kept on propelling the beast to victory...pretty soon the clasical Barn's rants came as speculation of nitrous came about, also serious racing fumes could be smelt when the agreement was that no racing fuel was the order...lol, came out the GTI also ran 102...and meth!
My uncle is a kind of sore looser, and him and the Barn's Ford fights go back for years!!! He came with everything from modified 325is's to M3's and now GTI5's...still he can't beat them. On Easter weekend, the race, car nut weekend in Kimberley, my uncle came down with his new party trick...a red 09 S3, aparently he took everything fromt he G5 and told Preggie to transfer it the the S3...bar some adaption changes obviuosly...total came to 40 grand worth of speed mods... I had a quick burst in the 4 wheel beast and it was noticably quicker than the G5...
What dissapointed me was the fact that the Barn's were now where to be found...they had the word on the street that that Durbanite is back with a vengance...running with motorbikes etc...he want's the red Escort...but low and behold, they never rocked up... This passed weekend while I was there in Kimberley for the Summer Fest, spinning and drifting, there were obvious late night activities, a guy named Bruce from Pietermaritzburg and a young guy with a 325i Turbo also took on the Red Escort...but to no avail...
The red escort rules Kimberley, M5, E55, couldn't do it against the Kimberley king, I guess we will never know since they did not run with the S3...for good reasons I believe....
So therefore I say, S3 is the king there...Escort ran out scared...but brags all day long about how fast the car is!
