I just hope I finish Factions campaign before it gets released :) I wont say the same thing about prophecies since that is one massive campaign and I have only reached Divinity Coast there.

This is true, like I said in the other thread, Factions pace is just so nice. Prophecies is much bigger and will take longer to get through.

Shouldn't be a problem finishing Factions though, can do it in 2-3 weeks (even less), depending on your playing lifestyle. :)

depending on your playing lifestyle

I like that term "playing lifestyle" very much!

It's really started applying to me in the last year too. I have to really push to fit in a few hours of gaming these days. GW is a highly enjoyable way to spend any free time too.

In my effort to get my 1st-ever MMORPG character through the levels, I've even set my alarm for an hour earlier, just to get in a little more playtime. Life-style indeed...

The secret is balance. Gaming is supposed to enhance your quality of life by being relaxing and stimulating.
From your post I can determine you already don't have time for other stuff in your life, which is probably making you feel like this.
That's why it's called a lifestyle, it forms part of your life and the style is according to how you live your life.
You are probably being made to feel guilty as well, or somehow blames yourself for playing when you can be doing other stuff, which must be done.

If you play every spare moment and hour or whatever, without paying attention to loved ones, doing chores, living life, basically degrading the quality of your life, then it would be bad.

Take a break if you have to, go on vacation, do something fun. Do something which has been outstanding for a while. You will feel better and have some form of achievement.

/end consultation :)

It's all about balance. Do other things that also improve your state-of-being, whether physically through exercise, or emotionally through friends and family, or intellectually through learning.

Don't quit, just spread your free time around a little bit too. It really is only a game, but you can enjoy it together other stuff in your life too

Wise words

Flarkit, lilDeath, some wise words there. lilDeath, you hit the nail on the head :) Thanks for the consultation, where should I send the cheque to? :p

I suppose potential gaming addicts need to be aware that the game is designed to play for hours on end, assuming one wants to make most efficient use of time spent on the game! The structure of the missions is such that you will often achieve the most in-game productivity by putting in a few hours of gameplay. (i.e. Clearing out an area will allow the completion of several quests that may cross each others paths. e.g. Befriending The Kurzicks!)

As you both mentioned, it's all about balance and time management, so people with weak will-power (when it comes to gaming) and prone to ignoring the things that should take higher priority in life, had better beware

Thanks for the insight and encouragement! I will take heed of the advice given! I will certainly have to cut down on my playing time until such time as I have restored the balance in my life!

I'm a software developer, and the problem I find with IT is it is never-ending as to how much one needs to learn to advance in the field. It seems like if one is truly passionate about IT, then that leaves very little spare time to squander! Well, I suppose it's about learning the right stuff as opposed to learning everything and again balance comes into the picture. Working more intelligently as opposed to working harder.

Suggestion: Perhaps we need a gaming addiction sub-forum

hehe, good post :)

I am also in IT, but more on the technical level and know exactly what you mean. It is tough sometimes. I believe that I am able to cut myself off very well when it comes to work and doing stuff I want to do.

I do however think that GW is a lot better on actual gametime and achievement when compared to for instance WoW. The fact that you have to pay for WoW monthly will make you feel even more forced and under pressure to play and to achieve something in WoW takes much longer on average. This is but 2 reasons why GW for me is awesome. :D

Good luck with the recuperation :)

Rehab

Thanks :D Recuperation will be tough! I have 80 telkom internet hours to use up on my ISDN Closer package before the 15th :p

Yes, fortunately there is no monthly subs for GW, so there certainly is less pressure to play it than a game like WoW!

It's just that I worry about my characters getting lonely if I don't play with them enough ;)

Am getting Battlefield 2 today, from Take2, so will give that a try this weekend. Man, it's going to be tough, but will try to keep life balanced!

I think part of my obsessive gaming problem crept in trying to keep up with buddies who have way more time to game than I
