The Future of Infrastructure/Systems Consultants

Hi Guys

I wanted to start a discussion around where current infrastructure/Systems consultants are taking their careers. My suspicion is that in the next 5 to 10 years infrastructure related work will become pretty much no existent with the increase of IAAS and SAAS. In SA it’s not as prevalent yet, but if I look around the world then South Africa is probably a few years behind what the rest of the world is doing.

Would the best approach be to start moving into the developer or DevOps space?

Hybrid clouds are likely the outcome for most enterprises so there will still be plenty of consulting work.
The work might change and require more assistance with how to integrate services and services inside different cloud providers
