The future of IT revolves around "the nexus"

Lloyd Gedye needs a new keyboard; it seems his '.' also activates 'Enter' twice. Lost me about 8 [-]sentences[/-] paragraphs in. Overuse of paragraphs makes something almost as tedious to read as not having any paragraphs at all... and when just about every sentence is a paragraph on its own, you have too many.

Ugh...

So my mind wandered very fast and came to one conclusion : I like pie

Why do I get the feeling MyBB did not read this article before posting it thinking it had something to do with Google. Talk about wasting time.

Sounds like they had nothing new to say so they came up with a new name and some motivational speeches,, alternatively the writer missed the point all together :whistling:

Had nothing to do with Google. The pic on the frontpage may allude to it, but that's it. The word "nexus" doesn't imply that the piece will be about the Google brand of phones.
Reading the article will give you insight into what Lloyd was on about.
For me personally, twas a waste of time to read - I don't have that much interest in analytic symposiums.

Sure that to others, there'll be great interest in what was said.

Feel for those people that coughed up R20k for it though.

The article is from the Mail and Guardian - it tells you at the bottom. It can also be found here.

I suggest any negative feedback on the article should probably be directed their way. For numerous reasons I am going to diplomatically not comment on the quality of the Mail and Guardian or its staff in recent years. Similarly am not going to comment on how a particular style of non-writing features in the standard routine of journalistic writing of recent years. I am going to point out that paragraph sentences are consequence of the way in which journalism students are taught to write and that if you have a problem with this you should write to the fine academic institutions which teach journalistic writing - or as I do question whether we should try to teach journalism in such a form at all.

This later course will get you into trouble however.

I understood the article perfectly. The heading made me believe it was about something other than what it was about but I have come to expect this from most publications and so as soon as I realized that it was simply a silly heading the mind adapted. The very valid point that 20k is a lot of money to spend on nonsense was made and I felt that would have been a good theme to start with.

We should however commend the Mail and Guardian for having some proofreading and sub-editing ...

"........ these delegates each paid R20 000 to get into the room with Gartner’s top analysts".

Poor souls....99% of all their gumph/hot-air/hype..... is to be found (free) all over the net!!!

Nexus should be afraid. Soon Apple will take them to court because the device smells just like a sighphone.

Edit: egads I just realized that I have no idea what the article was about either. thought it was about nexus phones :/

The nexus of forces was discussed by Gartner earlier this year. I'm a Gartner member (free membership) and am doing my IT Hons so research led me to this. IIRC, a pretty in-depth summary of the nexus paper was available to free members.

Basically, without the article, the four forces social, cloud, mobile and information will shape IT in the not to far away future. So anyone wanting to be at the cutting edge should look into these 4. They pretty much cover or related to any aspect of IT in some way or the other.

Information systems and journalism aren't anything alike, and when they meet it isn't always pretty. Eish
