Hi There....

I've got some question regarding the PS2 console....hope you people can help me out here....

1.) Now that the PS3 is going to be released, is the PS2 going to be dead. What i mean by that is that there are quite alot of people who own this console and not really planning to spend R5500 on a PS3. IMO i'll wait till the issues in the early versions of PS3 gets resolved and that the price drops as well as game variety and price before I go on buying a PS3. So how does the PS2 future look

2.) Accoding to online PS2 specs the Slimline version of the console has a build in Ethernet port...is that true for the units in SA? Has ANYbody actually used the Online connection....and what have you managed to do with it.

3.) What is the best website to buy older PS2 games from...i see that all the common websites (Musica,Take2,Digital Planet,Kalahari, etc.) only have most of the newish releases and there are some older games i'm looking for....also with online retailer IYO is the cheapest and best.

4.) Last question...quite a silly one....what PS2 game has the absolute BEST graphics??? :p

Thanks in advance

1) not for another year at least - they are still being sold new, with the pink console selling in the UK.
2) Yes, but reliably useful only for multiplayer games - ps2-ps2 and some internet.
3) www.bidorbuy.co.za - there is a UK retailer there - I have bought from them. Delivery is under 2 weeks and prices are good - they sell very good quality disks (like new)
4) That's prolly opinion, but I like GT4 graphics! (If you like sim type games).
NFS Most wanted is also nice, but more arcadeish (less realistic)

1. Well they have released an emulator for the PS2 to run games at HDTV resolutions so I think that will give a little more life to it. I dont think it is going to die that quickly...reckon it will be around for at least another 2 years. I know when I have to travel I like to take my GFs slim line console its really great because we can use it as a DVD player as well.

2. Yes the SA Slim line has Ethernet. A friend of mine tried an oline game on his once but said it lagged quite a bit.

3. Hi-fi corp usually have clearance on their older games. They very cheap R50-R200.

4. Burnout Revenge.

BTW anyone wanting to get rid of their old slim-lines for cheap PM me ;) lol

As far as I can see the memory cards will only work on the PS3 with the 60GB hard drive (premium or what ever they call it) I have no idea about the controls.

The PS2 pro'ly has at least two to three years of life left. Sony only stopped selling the PS1 in 2004 (4 years after PS2 launch). There are so many consoles out there that it pays most of the game studios to support it until the PS3 has wide adoption (and a lower price :D).

Sony has sold around a quarter of a billion PS consoles AFAIK, they will support the installed base.

Yeah - good point, although I am betting the time frame will be less than the PS1... I think alot of people will be buying PS2 games as the prices drop and availlability persists... they're not that bad.

Im confused?

Why would anyone buy the PS3?
The Xbox360 offers you so much more and is such good value for money.

The Xbox is half the price of what the PS3 will be.
Games are easier to make on the Xbox so there will be more titles available.
And if you have an Xbox and your friends have PC's you can LAN with them if you have the same game on Xbox.

??

...and that has to do with PS2 how, exactly?

You have to send in a form which you get with your ps2 and they sent you a network disc to setup up network settings for online play.

But Xbox still needs to prove itself... look at the original - their distribution was pathetic. The first one I saw was at cash converters - they are nowhere with their distribution. I did see some stuff at game recently, but it looks like the 360 is the first one they have made real effort with. I am still skeptical.

Ok...let me confess....

I don't have a PS2....had one 2 years ago but had to sell it (was like R2500 at the time)

I've been scouting around and had a look @ the current PS2 pricing....

Hifi-Corp = R14??
Game = R15??
Makro = R1799 (+ Game + Remote + Memcard)
Look & Listen = R1499 & R1599 for Silver Version

The games are also really affordable....hell even burnout is like R69

anywayz....yeah yeah...i can hear voices shouting already...buy XBOX 360!!!

Here are my reasons....

Playstation 3 - Will not buy yet as the price is gonna be to high...little games variety...early console releases tend to have problems only resolved in later versions...not really a fan of spending R499-R699 for a game.

Xbox 360 - Mostly same games thats on the PC...quake..halo..prey...LOTR...etc... , I like the japanese style games...Devil May Cry style etc.. I also hate to look of the console...really that silver jobbie on the optical cover looks really lowbudget....and what's up with the funny custom harddrive....and I prefer the PS remotes aswell (Layout)

Nintendo WII - err...emm...We live in South Africa

Playstation 2 - Yeah Yeah...not the best graphics...whatever...graphics does not determine how fun/entertaining a game is... Dammit you can get Gran Turismo 4 @ like R169

Well that's my 2 cent

Best games :

*Prince .Of.Persia.The.Two.Thrones [Personally played and get freaked out how good this almost ancient console can look so good]

*God Of War [personally played and absolutely stunning]
*God.Of.War 2 [February 2007] PLZ Watch this 6084KBtrailer and tell us all what ye think [even if it means stopping those queued downloads :p]

*Shadow .Of.The.Colossus [haven't played but heard great things]

*Gran .Turismo.Series [played 3 but am sure 4 was pushed]

Note these are not listed in any order & there are tons more.

Also to extend the life of your console get HDLoader [not HDAdvance which is a paid for version of the free HDLoader like I was tricked :(] and store all your CD & DVD games on the HDD thus preserving the laser [mine going 3+ yrs now :)], just look for the memory card exploit & also worth mentioning is the slim line may have less compatability with HDLoader as the HDD expansion bay was removed from the fat ps2 so you may have to get USBAdvance [check torrent or newsgroups for this].

One reason to get an Original XboX is to use it with XBMC so if your selling one really cheap contact me A.S.A.P :D

Hope that helps
