DW,

If you feel the need for a PS2, that's your call by all means, but just be clear about the 360 and Wii before your right them off. By the sounds of things you like things to look purdy, the PS2 is going to date in a matter of months, when you're looking at PS3 / Xbox / PC reviews.

If you're looking in that price range, you can look at the 360 Core for R2599 at Hi-Fi Corp. It's similarly kitted out, but has room to expand and will last you 5 years as oppossed to 1. There are already a number of budget titles available in the R200 range.

There are Plenty of XBox 360 exclusive titles coming out, they're not just PC ports, on top of that, Microsoft has gone out of their way to try make sure they've got more Japanese content coming out on the 360 than the PS3! (Dig up some TGS coverage)

If online play is your thing, then XBox live! online services kills anything the PS2 has to offer.

Having said that, don't write off the Wii, Nintendo is represented in South Africa and the Wii is supposed to land here before the end of the year. If you want resellers, go to www.Take2.co.za, or www.BTgames.co.za, or straight to www.nintendo.co.za.

Actual not surprisingly, the PC games market remains the biggest in the world. (Comment from MS at one of the recent conferences)

That is indeed true doobiwan...but my idea was to Buy a Ps2 to use while the price of the Ps3 comes down....then sell the Ps2...buy the Ps3 and still use all the games i already have

The PC game will always be bigger when the cost of PS2 games is 2-4 times the cost of PC games... Sony will never learn that one it seems

good idea BUT..Take into consideration the timeframe you thinking about there. How long do you think the price of a PS3 will take to come down to reality.I for one personally am against the PS3 price and it will take a substantial timeframe for the PS3 to come down to meet South African price requirments for a average household.

as ive stated before in many other posts,The PS3 was never priced for a 3rd world country But infact it has been priced to meet the needs of a 1st world country's family/single household.

The price is in one word for south africans.....INSANE!!!

The current price for PS3 in SA will be according to online retailers about R5500....and sony will soon adapt the price to kinda meet the Xbox price...so if the PS3 is about R3999 in a years time...ill be more than willing to buy

x-box for president lol j/k

just imagine the price of 360 in a years time then after as you say sony drop there prices.

sony's biggest mistake was to raise the price of the ps3,and they will live to regret that mistake.

imo im in a spin off on which to choose? wii or 360 as i have lost my respect for Sony.

Don't get my wrong i'm not against other consoles etc....it's just that i had a bash @ the 360 the other day...played some prey,PGR3 and quake 4...and also had a look at the unit etc...just dont like it...don't like the look of it..dont like the feel of it...and don't like controllers.....i'll wait for PS3...i'm sure that sony is gonna adapt their pricing even if they have to sell it under cost..

Ps3

The PS3 will retail at around R6000 in S.A and every unit will still be sold at a loss by Sony.

They have spent millions on the technology and won't be willing to drop the price unless they are really struggling to break into markets.

I will never buy a PS3 or an Xbox360, but if I had to, I would buy an Xbox, because microsoft is smart, by allowing xbox player and PC player to play multiplayer games together they are giving new life to both platforms.

Also an Xbox is so similar to a PC that company's that design PC titles can so easily port those to Xbox which will mean there will be a lot more titles released for both platforms.

Already there are complaints that designing games on PS3 is hard and an expensive process.

Xbox FTW!!

The futeure of the PS2

There is no future of the PS2...

Its future is tied in with the future of the video cassette.

...i see the same path for PS3....and the current SA price (you can pre-order) is R5500...

P.S. Please learn how to spell Macguyver1....and state the reasons for you comments...the PSOne was still a great seller a 1.5 years after the release of the PS2

C'mon Man

What are you saying, the PS2 did not cost R4800 when it was launched, can anyone confirm this?

And what was wrong with my spelling?

The PS2 was overpriced here. Ster Kinekor ripping off the consumer. They knew that if you wanted to get a console locally you had a choice between an overpriced PS1 and an overpriced PS2. This time round they won't have the market to themselves.
