PS3 is backward compatible so they will be developing games for the PS2
The network infrastructure in SA is pathetic, but the port does work in other countries using online gaming.
Buying online sucks, speak to some in malaysia or any south-east asian country.
The game with the absolute best graphics, which actually slows down the ps2 is Samurai Warriors 4 and Dynasty Warriors 5...have them all! Very cool game...i think Samurai Warriors 5 is out...or will be out over here soon

Do you have an original CD, or do you have USB-HDD?
Just wondering - AFAIK copies, inferior CDs and USB-HDD give lower throughput

how? CDs are made based on standards, they all have to be the same, even copying them...the bit rate or pits per cm have to conform. I will agree on the quality of the physical cd may differ, but the techonology have to be the same. it will never work or interface with the hardware itself. Hire the cd original / copy for urself....

Physical media differs from vendor to vendor, CDR's use dye that is far less reflective and open to the elements (particularly sunlight) than standard CDs. This is old news AFAIK. Originals (CD-ROM) manufactured by Sony are done under high quality conditions - not all CDR's are up to that standard. Use Nero CD Speed to test your media - see the difference between a CDR and a CD-ROM...
There are many posts on the Playstation boards out there where heated debate rages over the different manufacturers and quality of their disks - standards are not the same. Also, the PS2 laser unit uses different lasers for different media. I would test the original of the game in another console to confirm that speed issue, just an observation...

well When i imported my first ps2 it was about 7500 rand,I was one of first 5 people to get one when the launch was overseas,How stupid i was back then
I have come to realize that patience is a virtue
And of course the best grafix game on a ps2 is grandturismo,No other rival console company could get close to that, hence gt series made by polyphony
digital,JUst my 2 cents

That is indeed true doobiwan...but my idea was to Buy a Ps2 to use while the price of the Ps3 comes down....then sell the Ps2...buy the Ps3 and still use all the games i already have

buy a second hand ps2 then.....look in the news papers...some go for R1500 thats 2 controlers, mem. card, like 10 + games. then you save alot of money...:D

Got my silver slimline at cash converters with a year warranty for R1100. No games, just base, 1x controller, in box, etc. as the standard new models come.

On the pricing DarkWater is right, the PS2 did launch at R4800, maybe more (Remember when the Rand was about R12 to the dollar?). The reason the price dropped so radically over a year was a minor PS2 price drop, but a reasonably large improvement in the rand. That, unfortunately, is not going to happen with the PS3. (Rands definitely going the wrong way :()

The PS3 Will launch here for ~R6000, in march-May, if we're lucky enough to be the same as Europe. I wouldn't expect a price drop less than a year after then, so we're talking Mid 2008, and probably to not less that R4500, most likely R5000. Sony themselves have stated the PS3 isn't going to be profitable for 2 years.

So by then we're into 3rd generation 360 titles, Local XBox Live has launched. If you bought a Core now for R2700, you could have added wireless controllers, a Hard drive, the HD-DVD drive, a Live Cam, horbils of next gen games, and by the time the PS3 hits R4000, you'l be able to pick up a 32" HD LCD/Plasma TV for that price to play your 360 on as well :)

Not considering my personal bias that the 360 has all the best games coming for it and XNA to boot! (XNA has me very excited)

Dream on but then I'd be first in the queue should an 32" HD-capable LCD sell for R4000:D

Seriously thinking about getting the XBox 360 next year when the price comes down for the full-spec model.
