From the twatter

120mm in Carletonville in 40 minutes
The Irene (Gauteng) radar was working again this afternoon, and showed a big band of storms moving up from the SW. I didn't realise how big!

SAWS Public Website Upgraded

The public website has been upgraded and is now much improved from the old site well worth a visit:
www.weathersa.co.za/
The site is still under development so not all the facilities are available yet and some are intermittent.
There was an announcement yesterday about radar downtime but unfortunately, I did not save the details.
Location-based
Improved modern look
Better Satellite picture (actually the same as is available on the aviation site - so far not animated.) -

More historical data available including previous synoptic charts: http://www.weathersa.co.za/Home/HistoricalSynoptic
A section especially useful is the "StormTracker" http://www.weathersa.co.za/Home/RadarST
List of registered weather stations: http://www.weathersa.co.za/Home/Network

Very light rain, more along the lines of an extreme dew at the moment in PTA East.
