These Kyalami commentator idiots. They say "the rain has stopped and the radar indicates were in the clear". Meanwhile the weathersa app says it will rain in 30 minutes...and boom, right on the mark.
Some "fancy" radar they've got
A lot of people use apps that claim to use radar, but actually use satellite images to try track the CB's - they're far from accurate
AFAIK SAWS does not transmit this information from their radars to any 3rd party, insurance companies etc have an agreement to monitor the radars and issue warnings when they deem it necessary
Another system mostly used by schools and golf courses (you'll hear the lightning siren) have RF receivers which "listen out" for lightning and triangulate the location of the "transmission" from the strike
I've found this system to be hit and miss - when comparing it's storm prediction tracks to those from the actual Doppler Radars, this system actually showed it going in the completely wrong direction! Quite alarming considering its supposed to keep kids safe

luckily its good enough that when lightning is detected in the immediate area it triggers an alarm
In short, Doppler Radar is the only reliable source showing storm intensity and movements
