It has started raining in Hennopspark in Centurion.

In August 2012 we had light snow in Centurion as well.

Well I blinked and I missed it....

Had some light rain in Bryanston, everything outside is sufficiently moist :p

I'm almost certain the light rain experienced started out as snow, my reasoning

OR Tambo was reporting cloud bases at 4800ft, Lanseria at 5000ft and above

The freezing level is currently at 8000ft

FAOR = 5558ft + 4800 = 10 358ft which is well inside the freezing zone
FALA = 4521ft + 5000 = 9521ft which is also well inside the freezing zone

As the snow fell below 8000ft and warmed up on its descent it fell as rain by the time it reached the surface

At 08:00 OR Tambo was reporting 5 degrees
At 08:00 Lanseria was reporting 7 degrees

Both temperature observations are obviously too warm for snow, and the +- 2500ft (just under 1km) of warmer air the snow fell through was more than enough for it to melt

We had some rain too in the Randburg area. Good for cold, wetness, and I suppose a little garden pick-me-up stuff.

EDIT: Thunderstorms possible in June over the Free State - 2020 is definitely broken :rolleyes:

We had a lot of rain overnight in Boskruin. Too cold to go out and read the gauge but from eyeballing it from inside looks like about 20mm.
