The Geminid meteor shower peaks on the night of 13 December/morning of 14 December. You can start observing from 22:30, but best viewing will be between midnight and 04:30.

Depending on your skies you could see around 50 meteors an hour with some estimates ranging to 100 under very dark skies after the Moon has set.

You can also keep an eye out tonight and tomorrow night although the amount of meteors will be much less than at the peak.

From international reports it seems that you can already see one Geminid meteor around every 6 mins or so when observing after midnight (about 10 meteors an hour).

For those who might have missed it here's another reminder. The Geminid meteor shower will peak tonight!

To mangle Forest Gump :
"Life is like a meteor storm . You never know what you are gonna get . All you can do is watch and see what happens !"

Just keep watching in the general direction of Orion and you are bound to spot a few.

OK, for the non-stargazers among us - which way should we look? (compass co-ordinates will suffice)

Depends on time. Generally North should be fine. From 23:00 Gemini rises from the NE, and gradually moves West, rising higher above the horizon.

Had a great night. Between 23:00 and 02:10 I saw about 63 meteors. About 5 of them were very bright and left a blazing trail for a few seconds. Awesome!

You can still keep an eye out. Some meteors will still be visible till the 19th. They won't be so prolific, but could still deliver some surprises.
