The authorities gave permission for guests at a Gupta family wedding to land their private jets at Waterkloof Air Force Base, in Pretoria, the family said on Tuesday.

"The Waterkloof [Air Base] was used as Lanseria airport could not accommodate the size of the jet chartered by the family," said family spokesman Haranath Ghosh.

"The permissions were applied for and granted to the Indian High Commission and not the family," he said.

The Gupta family, which owns The New Age newspaper and Sahara Computers, is expected to celebrate the wedding of Vega Gupta, 23, to Indian-born Aaskash Jahajgarhia at Sun City, North West, between May 1 and 4.

The hotel and several of its services would be closed for the wedding, which was to be attended by 400 guests. Another wedding would be held in Saharapur, India.

Eyewitness News reported on Tuesday that private jets were landing at Waterkloof Air Force Base and that blue light vehicles were escorting guests to Sun City.

Comment could not be obtained from SA National Defence Force spokesman Siphiwe Dlamini.

Ghosh said all transport arrangements had been made transparently.

"Naturally, suitable protocol was used to receive and transport the foreign ministers to the wedding," he said.

It's so lekker when you [-]are politically connected[/-] have Zuma in your pocket, huh? :D
Corrected it for you ..

Naturally, suitable protocol was used ..
Yeah, cash is always a good protocol. Like Zuma said, businessmen who [-]bribe[/-] financially support the ANC's president will have their [-]companies[/-] wedding jets taken care of.

.. all our military base are belong to the Guptas!

The indian high commission applied for permission to land a jet at a military airport so the high commissioner could attend a private function ??
I think not - calling BS on that one !

We can expect to see a wedding on top billing that is a crass, tasteless and vulgar display of wealth.

Seems they suffer blue-light envy. A while back the family wanted an escort from cape town airport into the city.
They were told to piss off.
Suppose they are dazzled by the flashing blue lights & sirens - makes them feel terribly important !

Time those Guppies were properly investigated.

And who were the foreign ministers ?

Everything is for sale with the ANC. Everything.

Except maybe honor, since you cannot sell what you dont have.

Man I would love to see a romantic comedy about this wedding. Imagine all the ridiculousness that this excessively wealthy family puts up with, if you take the wedding-romantic-comedy-recipe trend into account. The bigger/richer the wedding, the crazier the comedy! Ah bless.

Can you imagine the business deal that happened at that wedding.

I can bet you the other family is some highly influential and rich family that side as well.

Dianne Kohler Barnard: DA REQUESTS A-G INVESTIGATION OF GUPTAS’ USE OF PUBLIC RESOURCES. It has been reported that the Guptas’ wedding guests were flown into Waterkloof Air Force Base this morning and then escorted by a blue-light South African Police Service (SAPS) VIP convoy to Sun City. Waterkloof Air Force Air base and SAPS’s VIP unit are meant for the use of dignitaries on official business or for an official government event. The Guptas’ family wedding is neither official business nor an official government event.

This is a clear abuse of state resources.

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa and other government departments responsible for allowing the Guptas free reign of public resources must be held accountable. Funding that could be used to deliver services to those that desperately need state assistance should not be used to roll out the red carpet for those friendly to the government.

I am writing today to the Auditor-General, Terrence Nombembe, requesting that he investigate the abuse of public resources for the benefit of the Guptas.

I will also submit parliamentary questions to the Ministers of Defence, Police and Home Affairs and they must answer the following:
• Who authorised the use of Waterkloof Air Base and SAPS’s VIP unit;
• Whether the Guptas' guests went through customs; and
• How much the use of public resources will cost the public.
Other than an ‘I rub your back, you rub mine’ motive, there is absolutely no justifiable reason why the Guptas should have been afforded the use of state resources for their family wedding. They should have made use of Lanseria Airport or OR Tambo International and paid for their own private security.

This incident shows much how much influence the Gupta family has over government. Public resources for pals has become the order of the day. The DA will not allow this to happen. We will get to the bottom of this flagrant abuse of resources.
