The information Wi-Fi networks can provide

VAST Networks has developed technology which provides shopping centres, restaurants and retailers with accurate data about their customers and their habits.

VAST is an open-access Wi-Fi network infrastructure provider which delivers carrier-grade Wi-Fi in South Africa.

One more reason not to use wifi.
There is no problem with a trusted Wi-Fi network, e.g. your own.

With the VAST thing, I can understand how a lot of that data is available without using 'intrusive' methods, e.g. they can check when the most users connect, etc.

What I want to know is - how do they determine the gender and age of the users? Is there a data collection form/page perhaps

"This anonymous data gives businesses insight into how many customers visit them, when and for how long they visit, how often they return, and who they are. "
How is this anonymous?
