The Lebanese version of Telkom is far worse than ours

Broadband was only made available in Lebanon around 2004, and one company has been awarded exclusive rights to licensed data lines.

That company is owned by a relative of the country's President, and if you don't like it: too bad. 128 ($45),256 ($100), and 512kbps ($175) are your only choices, and you're lucky if your real speeds challenge dial-up.

VoIP services have been banned, and to enforce it, the government has implemented a 32k maximum upload speed for residential broadband service.

Well if Telkomonopoly is actually better than some other monopoly in Lebanon, and Stinky is soon to be out of a job...I wonder if she'd take a job with the Lebanese version of Telkomonopoly...?

US$176 is around R1100 for 512. I skimmed through the article but didn't see anything mentioned about a cap. So if it's R1100 for uncapped 512 thats about R100 more than we used to pay for 512 with a 3GB cap.

The only advantage for us is that (touch wood) our ADSL is stable and the speeds are not bad most of the time. Although it will be nice when we have a faster option - if anyone will be able to afford it, that is.

G@d, we have to descend into the pits of tyranny to find someone worse than Telkom. How nice.
