Really? You'd like Tizen to take Android's place as the dominant mobile OS?

Honestly, I hope this never happens. If there's one thing I hate about Samsung phones, it's their software. TouchWiz doesn't have a single application that is not either an inferior version of the vanilla Android app, or inferior to third-party software that is available for free on the Play Store. If there's one company that needs to stick to hardware, it's Samsung.

Think you are getting two arguments mixed up - Samsung making its own OS is one thing, Tizen vs Android is another. All the manufacturers customize the OS, Tizen is just a better planned base than Android and will have better compatibility with Linux Apps as it is more "in tune" with Linux development.

Do you even know what you are talking about.... wait let me teach you.

Tizen is a Linux based os much like Android, but its run by a organization with no hidden agenda's like Google. See https://www.tizen.org/

You might know it by some of its former names, Moblin, Meego, Bada and Maemo. Yep they all merged to form one OS/Project called Tizen, and that is the one I am voting for not the Bada crap you are thinking of.

Well either Tizen or Gecko to boot, as both those OS's will get my vote above Android any day.

Well, somebody has to design the user interface, right? And isn't that Samsung, at least for the moment?

I've seen screenshots of phones running Tizen, and it looks like an uglier version of TouchWiz on Gingerbread:

Also, I assume Tizen will lack Android's tight integration with Google services, which for me is the most appealing things about Android.

Well google's services are but a web service api call away and I'm sure google will make their services available to whomever requires them like they have done for RIM, Nokia, etc in the past.

I have to say Boot to Gecko is looking very awesome, especially from a web developer's perspective. It just makes perfect sense.

That may be true in theory, but considering that it's currently impossible to get something as basic as a decent Gmail experience on any mobile platform other than Android (even the official Gmail client for iOS is crap), I'm sceptical about well it will actually be implemented in reality.

Ouch, well it is still very early so lets hope that they dont get all their design input from Sammy as they dont have a single clue what design is.

At least there is also boot to Gecko..

Another Linux based OS but this time just running a browser, all apps are html5+javascript+css.

As for the Google services, I think BtG should probably cover this very easy as it is in essence just a browser.

Very rough, needs a lot more work on the UI, but looks very promising.

Its so small you can actually have this on all phones as a dual boot option, without affecting the Main OS.

Think of it as an instant on for phones. Great potential if you ask me.

I like the concept, but as a primary solution (i.e. opposition to iOS and Android); never been big on dual booting anything.

Clearly great potential, hopefully they see it through, not like WebOS, MeeGo, Moblin, Maemo, ...
