The MG Cars Thread (Morris Garages - Past & Present)

MG Comet EV Review - Team-BHP

MG Comet Pros

• An affordable EV that focuses on personal mobility
• Ultra-compact size, light steering and small turning radius make it perfect for crowded cities
• A well-built hatchback that doesn’t feel cheap
• Real world range should be 150 – 160 km which is enough for an urban commuter
• Adjustable drive modes and selectable regen braking are useful in various driving conditions
• Zero emissions, cheap running costs & green image will appeal to a lot of people
• Good-looking cabin that has adequate space for 4 people to drive around town
• Tech includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, connected car benefits, cool starting procedure (no button to press), digital key sharing, etc.
• Good feature list includes LED headlamps, indirect TPMS, keyless entry, split folding rear seat, reverse parking camera with sensors, etc.
• Plenty of customization options and accessories to make your car truly unique

MG Comet Cons

• Weird, funky styling may not appeal to everyone
• Not for people who want to do highway runs. This car is strictly for the city only
• 2-door design means difficult rear seat access. Also, it is a 4-seater, not 5
• 41 BHP motor isn’t fun-to-drive
• Can be used only as the 2nd or 3rd car of the house. Surely not your primary vehicle
• Zero boot space with all the seats up. You’ll have to fold the rear seats if you want to carry any luggage
• No DC fast charging or even AC fast charging options. Just home charging is available which takes 7 hours for a full charge (10 – 80% in 5 hours)
• The usual EV challenges (charging infrastructure, range anxiety, setting up home charging etc.)
• Missing features like seat height adjustment (tall drivers would want to lower the seat), rear washer and wiper, spare wheel!!
• 2-speaker sound system is just sad

Auction watch : 2007 MG XPower SV - AROnline

One of the last – and rarest – MGs ever built is set to go under the hammer at Historics on 3 May. With exceptionally low mileage, carbon-fibre bodywork and dramatic Peter Stevens-penned looks, this XPower SV represents MG’s boldest moment of Phoenix-era ambition.

The 2007 MG XPower SV is set to be offered by Historics Auctioneers in its Farnborough ‘Flight of Elegance’ sale. With just 5,187 miles on the clock, one owner from new and an interesting specification, it’s estimated to fetch between £48,000–£55,000 – a tempting proposition for fans of this misunderstood Anglo-Italian supercar.

The SV was the most extreme expression of MG Rover’s ambition to transform itself from purveyor of warm saloons into a performance-led powerhouse under MG Sport and Racing’s XPower banner.

Based on the divisively-styled Qvale Mangusta – itself derived from the De Tomaso Biguà – the SV brought carbon-fibre construction, Ford V8 power and a dramatic stance to a car market that wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.

First look at MG CyberX SUV ahead of reveal tomorrow

Boxy-looking SUV will be unveiled at the Shanghai motor show as a follow-up to the Cyberster roadster

The MG CyberX SUV has been previewed on video ahead of its unveiling at the Shanghai motor show tomorrow.

Briefly shown in a video posted to Chinese social media platforms, it is a new electric SUV that will be the second model in the brand's Cyber line-up, established last year by the Cyberster roadster.

The early images reveal MG’s latest electric SUV will receive a more upright, boxy and rugged silhouette than its existing models and be positioned more towards lifestyle-minded buyers.

It also features illuminated badges and full-width LED light bars front and rear. Rivals are expected to include the new Smart #5.

MG's Cyber sub-brand has been created to target younger buyers and is initially aimed at China. But MG has previously confirmed global ambitions for its Cyber-branded models. The Cyberster, for example, is on sale in the UK.

Boxy-looking SUV unveiled at the Shanghai motor show as a follow-up to the Cyberster roadster

MG has revealed the Cyber X as a boxy, high-riding electric SUV at the Shanghai motor show.

It is the the second model in the brand's Cyber line-up, established last year by the Cyberster roadster, marked out by a more upright, boxy and rugged silhouette than its SUV range-mates and positioned more towards lifestyle-minded buyers.

In addition to the CyberX, MG plans to launch eight new models over the next two years across three product lines: sports cars, saloons and SUVs.

The MG Cyber X is a boxy SUV concept with pop-up headlights

MG’s newest SUV does upwardly mobile in a very literal way

MG has unveiled a boxy SUV concept it’s calling Cyber X. Following up to the sporty Cyberster, the Cyber X very joyfully brings back pop-up headlights.

The MG Cyber X’s front end features a wrap-around light strip and a deep grille grinning with dimples. Frankly, the combination of those headlights, the additional illuminated bar and badge, the matte gunmetal paint job, privacy glass and dual-tone rims suggest there’s a transformer lurking under the shell of the thing. Clearly, the MG design team nailed the brief.

Why? The Cyber X forms part of the Cyber series aimed at younger folk. It’ll sit on a fully electric platform with an integrated cell-to-body battery, built by parent company SAIC. The carmaker has said it's a ‘city adventure toy’ with ‘the attitude of exploration and adventure’. Don't expect any 4x4 smarts, but do expect to see plenty of connected cabin tech.

It’ll look to rival the Smart Hashtag Five, (and perhaps all those in the market for a Chelsea Tractor at a Ford Mondeo price) but MG told TopGear.com the Cyber X is "a showcase for MG’s design capabilities and explores potential". While we're 99.9 per cent certain it'll get made, production and release to the global market is yet to be confirmed.

JSW MG Motor India has just announced that its upcoming long-range version of the Windsor EV will be called Windsor Pro. It will be officially launched on May 6, 2025.

The new Windsor Pro promises to offer improved interiors and tech, better safety and a bigger battery pack. Reports suggest that it could get a 50.6 kWh battery with a range of 460 km on a single charge (CLTC cycle).

On the other hand, the interior layout looks familiar with a large, floating touchscreen in the centre, a digital instrument cluster and a 2-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel. It will feature black leather upholstery and faux wood trim and copper details.

The Windsor Pro is expected to be powered by the same electric motor as the standard version. It has an output of 134 BHP and 200 Nm and drives the front axle.
