The most expensive cities in South Africa in 2019: Joburg vs Cape Town vs Pretoria

Data group Numbeo and expat portal Expatistan have published their Cost of Living indices for 2019, listing the cheapest and most expensive cities to live in across the globe.

Would like to know how they calculated their monthly transport cost. That is less than my weekly transport costs.

Cape Town in third albeit rentals highest? Disposable income not higher to compensate so something not adding up..

That all sounds like baloney to me, Pretoria and Joburg have the Gautrain which even for a month pass does not cost R700 - R1200. R5000 rent a month for a one bedroom flat seems like a farce to me as well. 5K for one bedroom should be rather upscale, you can still get accommodation for 3 - 4 k a month if you are willing to life in someone's granny flat.

resturaunts have always been expensive and really if you are cashed strapped you should be avoiding them anyway.
