I think SA and Africa’s hope of vaccination relies almost solely on AstraZinica/Oxford one due to total costs involved.. from vaccine cost which is like $2-3 to its distrib requirements being similar to existing processes and procedures in place etc standard vaccine refridgerwrion.

The mRNA synthetics cost like $30 a pop and require ULT refrigerator which is extremely limited in SA let alone Africa. Combo that with distrib concerns and yah that’s a tough one to see viable except in urban areas for private use..

The crazy thing is timeline since it came out.. this reminds me of the intro to “I am legend” and combo with “new” synthetic.. yah let’s watch what happens to UK haha

Its a joke, the R327Mill down payment is enough to treat 1 in 10 people, 6 million. What about the rest? And that will only be in the middle of next year.

Something interesting to think about as I know it’s coming soon to a debate near you is this.. will you take the vaccine when it becomes available and how will you respond to compulsion.

Governments globally are pushing for vaccination and some are claiming that this in addition to lockdown is the “death of democracy” which is hilarious to me as they often fail to address a crucial aspect which it hinges on i.e. unilateral action impact on society and the implications vs human rights.

you can argue that you have the right to party, not wear a mask, socialize etc but by that same token of rights.. everyone has a right not to be infected. So back to the hiv/aids thing where willfully having unprotected when u know u are infected is criminal. So it’s a bit interesting.. as this viral infection is traceable but transmission isn’t limited to when you are symptomatic

My suspicion is that life insurance & medical aid company statisticians are running the numbers vs incentivizing vaccination. So funding it it in some way as it reduces cost/risk vs working population.

Problem is that due to lockdown, life insurance cost from a provider side has decreased as there has been lesser unnatural deaths as a result of lockdowns so it skews things.

A similar calc will likely be done by most employers as it helps with H&S end cost of adhering to regulations. Everyone is vaccinated means full production stuff in factory?

That should cover a lot of the at risk population.

And even that pitiful amount was paid late, past the deadline, because of an 'administrative glitch'. The incompetence of this government is just staggering.

They are counting on the fact that south africans are accustomed to paying privately for everything, there will be a large minority that will pay out of pocket for the privilege to get vaccinated without lining up at a government hospital, and then there will be private company sponsored vaccinations for whatever operational purpose, which will decrease your 10 to 1 to maybe 7 to 1, not a dramatic improvement but still noticeable.
