There haven't been any tremendously high failure rates since those Seagate DM001 drives a number of years ago.

Those are by far the worst drives I have ever come across, and can still be found on Takealot to this day sold by 3rd party sellers.

Seagate are the worst. I have 3 1TB drives that semi work and do this clicking sound then bomb out. They seem ok as back up drives but can't seem to handle working with a OS installed. I've got a 1TB Western Digital that has been working since 2013 without issue.

Got two Seagate drives that gave up during the past year. Guess I'll never learn my lesson.

Back in the day WD was far more reliable than Seagate drives.
I must say SSD's have become far more reliable over the past few years.

Interesting to see that Backblaze no longer use WD. My experience over the last 20 years has been that WD fails far more than any of the other hard drives I've had.
