The Mother of all Time Machine backup's just started - how do I go home?

Ja.

So made the stooooopid mistake of plugging in my external HDD for a /TM/ backup, for the 1st time since upgrading to Yosemite... :whistling:

"About 4 hours remaining"...

So, given I've always just let it run - is it wise to interrupt things/put it into sleep mode etc., for the trip home? I know it's "just" a backup - and were this to have been any other time, I would've pulled the plug - but since its the 1st /TM/ in Yosemite, I'm a bit more cautious about something going wrong with it...

Suggestions?

Maybe I should just drive home with it open, and on my lap... What could possibly go wrong...

Assuming it's a laptop just leave it on and close the lid and go home... Don't leave it inside a bag though.

It may get stuck the next time you try and backup, if this happens just remove the temporary file and restart the machine. As per these instructions: http://osxdaily.com/2014/03/31/time-machine-stuck-preparing-backup-mac-fix/

Much obliged...

Think I'll ride it out rather (now) - it's already dropped down to 51 minutes - so will hopefully keep dropping... I would rather wait that little bit, if there's less chance of something going wrong with the 1st Yosemite...

Need it at home tonight - but as mentioned above, seems to be speeding up now, so will be able to wait for it to finish!

Ah. Sorry. Did that once - after my lift club was about to leave, and Mountain Lion was still being installed. As the passenger, took a chance. Nervy ride home, but hey.
