My way of picking teams, was taking into account which teams I think can score the most tries, as well as the strength of the opposition teams, as well as the weakness.

I.e. choosing between Ireland and Argentina, there are 3 very weak teams in Argentina's pool, which may see a few 8-to-12 try results, which will boost my scores a bit more than choosing Ireland, who only have 2 really weak sides in their pool.

New Zealand was a no-brainer too, since they always score the most tries, and likely to go to the final, so more chances of scoring points.

Similar thinking but I don't fancy the argies in scoring alot of tries for some reason.

I've also chosen NZ for the same reason as you.

Didn't chose wales because I fancy them to get KO'd in the group stage.

Looking at the pools and how scoring works, I'm amazed to few people chose South Africa

That old man playing in black is still a point’s machine.

- every penalty or dropped goal is 2 points
- every conversion is 1 point

Then that very same team has accomplished try makers, considering their pool... they will probably outscore all the other teams in the pool games alone.

What Fulcrum said above. Don't think anybody's gonna be near the All Blacks points tally after the round robin games.

Talking about penalties and conversions, Nemani Nadolo also kick the goals in their team. He had a 100% score ratio in their August games and slotted 9/9 against Canada... Considering his body,

Weight: 130 kg
Height: 1.95 m

Yikes.

A big body doesn't mean you cannot kick well, though... it's all about practice - and having the mind and composure, of course.

But he is massive.

I was mostly prop from grade 1 to std 8 and all my senior rugby I was backup kicker. I loved goal kicking.

Nice. Exactly.

I was u/16 Grant Khomo week kicker as well, as loosehead prop.

Not for our school's team, though, because we had a hell of a kicker back then(Tiaan Marx, played for the Sharks(Vodacom mostly) and Pumas a few years back), but his all-round game wasn't good enough to get to Grant Khomo back then.

Tobie Botha(late son of Darius Botha, Naas botha's brother) was his back-up. I took the 50m+ kicks though.

But I digress. Size isn't really a deterrent in kickers, unless they're fat. Nadolo isn't fat.

I remember how odd it looked to the world when Australia had a Lock kicking. John Eales /LEGEND

Indeed, he was lanky and looked like an antelope or something trying to kick a rock, but he was accurate as hell.

Also remember short and stocky - not fat - Basil de Coning kicking for Griquas in the Currie Cup 10-15 years ago. Also a weird appearance.

EDIT: Speaking of kicking forwards, this is probably the best kicking forward memory of all time. Amazing.

I remember a kick Fitzpatrick wanted to do a drop after a try to start quickly. He failed miserably in front of the posts. I wonder if that's on youtube. Will google when I get home :D

What Fulcrum said above. Don't think anybody's gonna be near the All Blacks points tally after the round robin games.

On this note, the 2015 RWC is completely unpredictable. Though the All Black team is the bookies choice to take the cup, there is no clear indication by any expert. They determined it to be 7 teams which are likely to win.

In random order,

England, Ireland, France, Wales, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa

That is like throwing 7 names in a pot and to blindly draw 1.

The panel even called Scotland, Argentina, Fiji and Samoa to make an upset in the playoffs. I have posted the article in the other thread. In fact, that article have given good insight which could had added value to the picks in this MyBroadband competition.

I'm a bit disappointed as South Africa featured very little in the discussion, only Duane made an impression here and there.
