Not sure if these 2 Golf 7 R video reviews by JayEmm on Cars have been posted here before:

Original Dec 2017 review:

Does the VW Golf R Render Sports Cars Obsolete?

If you're looking at buying your first sports car, it might be hard to overlook the incredible value for money offered by the current crop of hot hatchbacks. Today, I drive possibly the most iconic hatchback of all - the Golf.

But no ordinary Golf, this is the 300bhp R. With a plush interior, four seats, four wheel drive and a 2L turbocharged engine, does this car render sports cars obsolete?

Follow-up Feb 2018 review:

Is This 370bhp Modified Golf R Mk7.5 The Ultimate Daily?

Last month I drove a Golf R, to see if it could be a great sports car and it left me cold. This month, I am trying a newer Mk7.5 car with a different suspension and a map to 370bhp. Its owner thinks it will convince me of the Golf's worth - but will it?

Mods are: RacingLine VWR 20mm springs, H&R Anti-roll bars front and back, and Revo Stage 1 mapping.

Killed By Crossovers: The Volkswagen Golf SportWagen and Golf Alltrack

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of two of the better (also only) wagons still on the American market: the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen and its slightly lifted, Subaru-fighting sibling, the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack.

There is no mystery as to the cause of death. It is the crossover.

Today Volkswagen announced that production of both vehicles will come to an end this year, with the last Alltrack rolling off the Puebla, Mexico assembly line in December.

Now, this isn’t entirely unexpected—after all, a brand new eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf is on its way very soon, so eventually these wagons would have been replaced by variants of that car.

And they probably will in Europe and other places where people buy wagons.

ABT boosts Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR hot hatch to 250 kW!

ABT Sportsline has revealed its take on the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, handing the front-driven hot hatch 250 kW and a slightly higher top speed than standard.

The GTI TCR that VW revealed back in January 2019 employs the Wolfsburg-based brand’s familiar turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder, delivering 213 kW and 370 N.m (up on the standard GTI’s 169 kW and 350 N.m). But the folks over at ABT reckoned it could do with yet more poke…

Indeed, by fitting the ABT engine control unit, peak outputs have been raised to 250 kW and 430 N.m, which is enough to cut the claimed 0-100 km/h time from 5,6 to 5,4 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, now comes in at 265 km/h (the standard model tops out at 250 km/h … or 260 km/h with the right box ticked).

VW Golf GTI TCR Already Ramped Up To 335 HP (250 KW) By ABT

Back in 2013, the Golf 7 GTI arrived on the scene with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre TSI gasoline engine producing 217 hp (162 kW) or 227 hp (170 kW) with the Performance Package.

As the years went by, the horsepower count gradually grew and eventually hit an impressive 306 hp (228 kW) in the limited-run Clubsport S special edition. Fast forward to current times, ABT decided to extract even more power and got its hands on the more recent track-focused TCR version.

In stock form, the GTI TCR produces 286 hp (213 kW) and 380 Nm of torque, but ABT has taken output to a new level. Thanks to the tuner’s own engine control unit, the four-banger can be massaged to produce 335 hp (250 kW) and 430 Nm. The extra punch shaves off two-tenths of a second from the sprint to 100 km/h, with the task now taking only 5.4 seconds.

This Volkswagen Golf advert has just been banned in the UK

A 30-second television advertisement for the Volkswagen e-Golf has been banned in the United Kingdom for presenting “gender stereotypes in way that was likely to cause harm”.

As reported by CNN (and picked up by Motor1.com), three complainants approached the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the UK, arguing the advert breached newly introduced codes designed to stop companies depicting gender in a way " likely to cause harm, or serious or widespread offence".

The commercial opens with a shot of a woman and a man in a tent. The woman is asleep while the man switches off the light and closes the tent, which is fixed to a sheer cliff face.

The following scene depicts two male astronauts floating in a space ship. Text on the screen says "When we learn to adapt…". Next we see a male para-athlete with a prosthetic leg performing the long jump. The text states "…we can achieve anything".

The final scene shows a woman sitting on a bench next to a pram. A Volkswagen e-Golf passed as the woman looks up from her book. The advert closes with text stating: "The Golf is electric. The 100% electric e-Golf".

213 kW Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR finally confirmed for South Africa!

Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed the Golf GTI TCR will be offered locally in limited numbers, with sales expected to start soon.

The German firm made the announcement at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami. Some 300 units of the five-door hot hatch (effectively serving as a swansong for the Golf 7 range) have been set aside for South Africa, with pricing for each set to start at under R700 000.

Revealed in January 2019, the front-wheel-drive VW Golf GTI TCR employs the Wolfsburg-based brand’s familiar turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder, but in this case tuned to deliver 213 kW and 370 N.m, up on the standard GTI’s 169 kW and 350 N.m.

Fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, Volkswagen says the special model is capable of sprinting from zero to 100 km/h in 5,6 seconds – a full eight-tenths quicker than the standard GTI. Maximum speed, meanwhile, is 250 km/h, although the automaker says this can “optionally be increased to 260 km/h”.

The standard equipment list is expected to include a front-axle differential lock, perforated brake discs, driving profile selection, front sport seats (with a new microfibre/fabric design), seat belts with red edging and an “exclusive” sports steering wheel.

Volkswagen SA To Launch Golf GTI TCR

Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed it will be launching the Golf GTI TCR in limited numbers.

The Golf GTI TCR shares its name with the TCR series racing car but this road-going TCR version develops no less than 213 kW and 370 Nm of torque from its turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine which is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Zero to 100 kph is claimed at 5.6 seconds while top speed is 260 kph (optional).

In terms of outputs, the GTI TCR slots in below the limited edition GTI Clubsport S which offers 228 kW and 380 Nm but with a zero to 100 kph time of 5.8 seconds (top speed 260 kph), the GTI TCR is marginally quicker.

Volkswagen says it's new Golf GTI TCR will be priced "under R700 000." Should you buy one or go for a Golf R? We'll let you know once we've driven the newcomer.

Volkswagen's 213kW Golf GTI TCR is coming to South AfricaIt was a Wörthersee concept that came to life, and now it’s set to be a reality for a few lucky South African GTI fans.

The Golf GTI TCR edition has finally been confirmed for South Africa, Volkswagen SA announced at the 2019 Festival of Motoring on Wednesday. But hurry because only 300 of them will be coming to our shores at an as yet unspecified price of under R700 000 - which of course begs a certain Golf R question.

So what’s it got?

With its 2-litre turbopetrol engine tuned to 213kW and 370Nm, it is significantly more powerful than the standard GTI, which produces 169kW and 350Nm, although it still falls short of the Golf R’s 228kW and 400Nm.

Against the clock, the GTI TCR will screech from 0-100km/h in just 5.6 seconds, according to claims, which is a good 0.9 seconds quicker than the stock GTI, while the top speed can be optionally raised to 260km/h.

As with all GTIs, power still goes through the front wheels (rather than the R’s AWD set-up), via a seven-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox.

So less power and slower to 100 (the spec that matters to the spec sheet racer) than a golf R but more (or at least similar) money?

These 'limited editions' actually work!

Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR vs GTI - What’s the difference?

So, Volkswagen has confirmed that it will offer 300 Golf GTI TCRs in South Africa for ‘under R700 000’ next year. The news has lit up our social media channels with various opinions, but there appears to be some confusion regarding what the differences are between the standard Golf GTI and the GTI TCR. Let’s set the record straight then, shall we?

The Golf GTI TCR is the last swansong of the Golf 7 generation before the new Golf 8 is expected to be revealed in October 2019. Earlier this year, Volkswagen SA stated that the Golf GTI TCR would not be offered in South Africa but the brand sneakily used the 2019 Festival of Motoring to announce its intentions to bring the GTI TCR to market in SA.
